How to find that last 10-15% 'commercial' sound fully ITB?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

This has to be the most entertaining thread of the year.

Sorry to the OP (which left this months ago).

OP is thinking of 2 more things to post, so he can send a PM to someone that sells ThisPlugin. For that extra 10-15% commercial sound.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image
My MusicCalc is served over https!!

Coincidentally, I was just about to post an extra copy I have of ThisPlugin Xtra%, for sale.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

I'd leave too, considering the hostile environment of this forum. It's by a thread, that I'm still here. So I certainly don't blame him.
The irony ofc is, that you (the residents) don't seem to realise how hypocritical you are. You blast people for being this that and the other - while at the same time being this that and the other. (Seinfeld reference).
If I could just give one piece of advice is to be a bit more humble and welcoming of "foreign" thoughts/ new users. That's all. And the sarcasm.. Tone it down a tad.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. And the upvotes just enforce the "club" mentality. It's like a damn cult.. Do you want new users or do you want an echo chamber? Honest question.

sadly, facts don't care about feelings, and the fact is, the assertion that commercial release quality cannot be realised itb, is incorrect.

i say that as someone who has spent a good deal of money on otb equipment, but i know it isn't necessary, i just like to use hardware.

Hmm, was that the current discussion before it was derailed? I'm confused. I thought it was about proving 100 of billboard was using non itb, or if you flip it 180 - proving 1 song off the billboard 100 was produced 100% itb. Has either of this been done?

that was your discussion, i was discussing something else, with someone else.

Or did you manage to prove he sang with a USB mic right into the interface

No I know what your discussion was. As with lots of you here. To make fun, ridicule and be sarcastic. That's your MO. not you specifically but all you residents here. Pretty quickly you get the idea of the place you're in. My question is, is that the place you want. Honestly.

VOODOO U wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:26 pm So you guys actually believe that ricky's vocals and the instrumentation were recorded direct into the interface.
Yeah. Sure. A major artist siged to a major label and they did not use hardware processors. They did not utilize a billion dollar mixing channel. No way.
They just plugged ole ricky direct into the interface. Riiiiiiight.
I'm starting to believe this place is more like a cult than open and free discussion. Sadly.
Yeah it can come across that way more times than not unfortunately. I feel I should take responsibility where responsibility is due though. And that is that the truth hurts.
I think artists here do know I have a point and that's disappointing if one is attempting to make something happen doing it all ITB.

Oh so *now* you're all cute and cuddly coming in here asking for help after knocking me down.
Please.
You are at least persistent and I don't want to dismiss you as a troll.
Oh *THANK YOU* your highness.
Post a couple of songs that you have produced
Tune in to some college stations and you just might hear it.
and list the outboard gear you used and how you have exploited it. Maybe you've got a point.
Well that's just it. Something.none of you even attempted to ask until after your negative responses, I am like the OP and do it (did it) predominantly ITB. And guess what? It doesn't suffice. I like the aongs that were recorded in a studio much better. Now, are *those* songs perfect? No because I could only afford so much studio time. But using and trusting my ears, those recordings done with outside processors sound better than what I am doing now predominantly ITB.
Are these current songs loud enough for airplay? Yes. Is it "good enough" to get maybe some college spins? So far so good. Does it have that pro commercial sound of the major players? f**k. No. And I have tried with a variety of methods/plugs to no avail. I do Rock/Pop so that doesn't do me any favors having a billion tracks. Maybe if I did the Yazoo thing I could be better off. I dunno.
Anyhow, Ive decided to move to a cheaper state so I can invest in outboard processors recording into a DAW.
I'm going to do it right, a full drum set, bass stack, guitar stack, lots of mics and a pro interface (RME).
Now go ahead and tell me I lack the skills, and used the wrong plugs. Fine. Do it your way entirely ITB and good luck.
I don't know who you are. You could be a leading producer and maybe I and others should listen to what you are saying.
Whatever. Take what works for you.

If one was to be a pedant (moi?) one would point out that for a USB mic you don't need an interface- it is the interface.
