New delay sounds like it was an afterthought put together with stock RE modules. It sounds cheap, brings nothing new and is terribly designed with tiny controls and outdated mod matrix.
Like what they did with Audiomatic which is build from stock reason devices , but at least it was free .
I doubt the new delay is build that way (not saying you're implying that ) but you never know with this company
They did create a real "Upgrade DELAY" though... :dog: :hihi:

I would like to say I'm not yet done with Reason. However, I currently have very low expectations about where this company is going with the future development. This last video didn't help either. A lot of effort in that video, to convince us all that what R13 brings is a big deal because 'so many people worked on it'... or something like that. They have shown that they see no problem in removing functionality, so what does that say about the future of this software?

Moving to another DAW will be painful, even though I can take the R12 rack plugin with me. I'm testing Digital Performer 11 right now, and the available functionality is daunting, but in a good way (note-specific MIDI-channel assignments, anyone :hyper: ).MOTU implemented ARA-support in a free point-update, which gives another clear perspective on this whole Reason 13 release debacle.

What? You will never use Reason again? After 15 years? (maybe it's more than that probably)
I've been on board since R4. Mostly upgraded each version up to 8. Currently on 12.

I will still use Reason, but I won't upgrade ever again. The changes to the browser and disappearance of the tool window and the few changes to sequencer will just mess up all muscle memory that I'm just not prepared to alter. I use the RRP more and more, so when going "back" to Reason (which I still enjoy doing), it's still relatively an easy time getting around. I'm not going to relearn ways and then when I go back I'm doing things the old way and #%$#%$! oh yeah they switched this around. I did the change once in Reason 8. I'm not doing it again.

Btw, that video was pretty cringe-worthy. It's almost like it was damage control and maybe Mattias is going to be thrown under the bus, specially with the "marching orders" comment, which really didn't have to be there.

From what I understand, it was Mattias as well who suggested the Lite versions (including VST support and RRP).

Because of those decisions, I only upgraded from 8 to 12 and used the Lite versions in between. Great for me. (Not so good for the bottom line at Propllerhead-RS).

Big fan-boy. But likely stuck on 12 for quite some time.

Exactly my thoughts.

That's my initial thought as well, and as long as it keeps working I will. But based on how they run the company now, I don't expect any contingency planning for the online authorization if/when the company folds. So I'm doing my own contingency planning, and line-up a new DAW for when the proverbial shit hits the fan.

The new Live 12.1 update has more new features than what's in Reason 13 haha.

Reason 12.5.3 is the last version that uses the Authorizer...

I had a look at the demo now... and even though in some regards it's not as terrible as I had feared:
Oh boy, is it one inconsitent mess or what, which in parts forces the users to completely change their workflow?

This really adds insult to injury for the DAW-users (i.e. the only kind of users there were until a few years ago).

And one of the great things about Reason was that they always were very cautious when introducing new stuff in order not to mess up existing virtues and to not introduce inconsistencies. R13 basically looks like it's made by a mediocre developers who actually hates Reason and managed to steal their codebase.

I'm out... I will not even use the Rack either, for now unless..., because the future development will be a punishment for the long-term old customers and a trap, IMO, to the subscriber's base.

I think people are forgetting what a shitshow 12 was in the beginning. Very buggy and all sorts of problems with VST3. My bet is that the work they had to do to get 12 stable put them back on 13 development and hence the lackluster update but they had to put something out there. The period between 12 and 13 was longer than their usual update cycle I believe.

Total conjecture. I also think they've changed their target market in the recent past. It used to be indie "bedroom producers" that they were trying to get but Ableton has that segment on lockdown. If you look at their socials for the past year or so you'd see that they are targeting "beat makers" and more "urban" artists/genres. I'd bet near term updates are going to be about beat-making workflow/devices. Or maybe they really are clueless.

I think they took the UI in the right direction, it's clear that the concept is like with Ableton or Bitwig, where the editor and its corresponding tool can be visible simultaneously; I can't entirely agree with the new browser part.

For those with large enough monitors, all three can be displayed at once, like in AL, but evidently the concept also works on laptops too (for ex on my MacBook)

For the browser, I personally would have kept the sidebar solution like in Guitar Rig; this floating window thing doesn't appeal to me

The difference is that Live & Bitwig have horizontal "racks". It makes sense. As Reason's is vertical it would make sense to at least give the option to dock the rack on the side so it felt less like editing through a letterbox.

default/mixer EQ and the compressors for the current track are always visible

and you can dock the effects related to the instrument under the instrument in the mixer device, and then you just have to put the device rack in full screen

Obviously, the workflow won't be as efficient, but in exchange, it will be visually richer

ps.
However, under AL/Bitwig, the visibility of the plugins(or group of plugins with the same key) can be toggled on and off with a shortcut key (or MIDI), which is where Reason falls short for me

Image
AFAIK there is no similar feature in Reason

That has been possible for ages in Reason.

I see for the first time that this is possible. Could you tell me how to get the mixer channel on the right of the screen, i.e. only the ONE mixer channel that is currently selected in the sequencer track? Do I have to share the screen for this ? (I'm using Windows 10)
