why "war"? do they destroy something and hurt or kill someone?

the update is impressive indeed.
If it's not a war, why don't we have only one DAW that have everything?
So we can make music with peace..
you can have licenses of 2 or more DAWs; music making is just music making. :P

Ableton is absolutely cooking with version 12. I don't know if they hired some new folks or what but they are definitely putting in that work.

12.05 was already impressive, and this one even more so. Also, the Push update is very much appreciated 🙏

Yup- as a Push 3 SA and Live 12 user it feels like Xmas!

New features and improvements:

When using the LFO or Glissando algorithm, the currently targeted MPE lane is highlighted and all other lane contents are grayed out.

Bugfixes:

Fixed an issue where Live would not restore a Set after a crash.
Fixed a bug that sometimes caused Live to display information about missing licenses for samples used in the default Set, the restored Set or the template Set.
Improved readability of selected Undo History entries in dark themes.
Fixed an issue where keywords that were added and immediately removed would later reappear in the browser.

A rather impressive .1, and not long after the initial release.

non biased review from a non ableton user. theres a slight chance my bias is i wish i loved ableton bc its a great daw.

this limiter is fire. This seems andy cytomic level fire. Would not be surprised if he contributed to the limiter in some way shape or form with how good it is. The fact that they emailed a survey to people asking them in 12.0 if they wanted pitch detection and correction stuff and in a few months they have given you a pitch correction device I would say thats rather impressive. This will also pave the way for them to implement this into whatever other devices. such as pitch detection for a root key of a sample in the sampler/audio clips. With the scale mode being able to be assigned to audio clips and them working on pitch detection / correction devices I would say there is a high likelihood this is the direction they are heading down. Its genuinely just going to be a lot better of a form then what logic tried to do in v11. I see this as something they will likely tease at in each point update before v 13 where they go hard.

I am just about to purchase Ableton 12. Do you know if 12.1 when fully released will be a free upgrade or is it worth waiting to purchase until 12.1 is out?

My first post in 15 years and I accidentally post twice! :dog:

Point releases have always been free. only major releases have a cost attached. At least, so far, anyway. I don't expect this will have any additional cost.

This is probably the stuff they wanted in 12.0 but it probably wasn't ready in time.

Ableton has a pretty decent track record of doing some fun minor releases.

Post

Yes, V11 had better stuff in the point releases than came with 11!

12.1 real is a big point release by any standard, but I would expect quite a few more free releases like this before you have to pay again, its normally about 3 years between paid releases

can someone tell me if they fixed the plugin scan at least by halving the time to show it in the dock?

just to remind:
installing 3 new plugins
renoise: well here we go, use it
ableton 11:" let me tell you a tale beforehand"...restart..."ok heres another one"...15mins later..."just use vst3, while i wrote my last shortstory"...restart 3...15mins later...

I installed a couple of plugins. I did not notice anything else than small scan before arrangement came into view. I have fast machine + 7GB+/s nvme though.. not sure if those matter so much.

finally ... stock autotune! and it sounds decent too!
after years of nagging them and getting backlash from the ableton-ists telling me "they will never do this, ableton is catering to techno producers" when the ableton demo project songs have been trap-rnb since at least 10 years
