Just downloaded and tested latest 2.2.0 ver for Mac and all seems to be perfectly fine.
No CPU spikes, no distortions, in fact it seems to be lower on CPU consumption on my Mac than the previous version :)
Maybe the problem is exclusively tied to M1 processors..? (I don't know, just guessing)
Tested under Cubase 13 Pro and Reason 13.
My Mac is: M2 Pro mini with 32GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.

on both mac / pc
have look in your expansion folder, there should be a file called rating.avdb this is the list of presets marked as fav. You can save this file to back these up.

This could indeed be the case with respect to the M1's architecture, I really don't know, either. 1.8 was just as bad for me. I have no other DAW to test it on.

I'm on an M1 Max, 64GB RAM, 4TB SSD 14" Macbook, Monterey 12.2 and Ableton Live 12. <shrugs>

Yeah, seems to be tied to macs running apple silicon processors. Any new mac sold within the last couple of years is obviously running an M chip, so I would have thought this is a pretty important bug to sort out :?

If anyone else here is running an M processor and seeing this spiking issue whilst at rest, please contact support and let them know. The more info they have, the better a chance we have at getting it sorted.

Follow these steps to test:

1) New project, open an instance of Avenger 2. Play a couple of notes just to check everything's working.

2) Open preset: Factory 2 > Arp > A Star Revieved

3) Pay attention to your CPU meter that comes with your DAW or a third party app, NOT the CPU meter in avenger itself as that doesnt show the spikes that are actually happening. Without playing any midi at all, watch to see if your CPU spikes every few seconds.

Cubendo 13.
Cheers. So you had absolutely no CPU meter movement at all, even after watching it sitting dormant for 30+ seconds with that preset loaded? (again, not reading the CPU meter in avenger itself)

Ok, so maybe we can narrow it down to OSX Ventura and up, and logic and live as the affected DAWs?

Post

No issues here with Avenger 2.1 on a Macbook Pro M3 Max in Logic 11 under Sonoma 14.5 and Mac Pro with Intel chips with Mac OS 13.

If you move to avenger 2.2 please snapshot CPU consumption of 2.1 for comparison.

Correct.
I checked both in cubendo's asio load and apple's Activity Monitor.

Did you install 2.2 ? Mine was perfect with 2.1.
Not anymore with 2.2.

So far it looks like macbooks arent affected, but minis and studios are?

Quick question to the guys who've ran the test I outlined above - do you keep your avenger library on the internal or an external drive?

Post

External for me.
Ssd over usb 3.2

Macbook here. Could be an M1/Ableton thing.

I'm not moving off of 2.0.5, it's fine being exactly there.

Avenger 2.2 - mini M2 Pro, Logic 11.0.1, Sonoma 14.5 = NO SPIKES
