I did get crashes. I'm testing an (I hope) upcoming pluggy that would crash all the time, but both got updated around the same time and issue now fixed. For some reason though now any Patcher fx takes a LONG time to load in a saved project.

Chord Generator crashes FL in so many ways... lock a chord, crash. Change a chord rhythm, crash. Change a progression, crash. Something ain't right.

But I must say, when it works, it's pretty solid for creating accompanying chords for bass lines and melodies - which, looking at FL's main audience, is one of its most important use cases. Compared to Scaler 2, voice-leading could be better, though.

how is the chord generator compared to chord captain?

Luckily they are so late to the party that I have enough and better 3rd party alternatives doing the job a million times better... so I don´t have any use for it and ... no crashes... :D

You have to swap the words... :D It´s "Captain Chords"...

But to answer your question:
1. featurewise Captain Chords is for me way ahead of the internal one... better GUI, better handling in general, features are better accessable, better Rhythm features, better presets... directly editable...
2. The real magic of the Captain plugins lies in the bundle and that they connect to each other... All other plugins take over the chords and create everything matching...
Changing the chords in Captain Chords, let the other plugins follow...
This is something all DAW developers have slept on imho...

Perhaps the implementation of the new Chord Generator is FL Studios attempt to build in this functionality over time and has the only advantage that it´s directly printed into the patterns while with Captain Plugins you work actually with external editors...

Nonetheless even if they try to build something as native into FLS, it will take years to complete... why shall I wait if I can have it right now??
Captain plugins are many times of the year at sale for 50% off and can be bought dead cheap... no need to wait for IL...

Next advantage for me: They are DAW independent! If I don´t work in FLS I can make use of the same system elsewhere (except Reaper... Captain Plugins do not work in Reaper on Windows ...they crash the DAW when you delete an instance!)

Another very good alternative are the "Engine" plugins from Feelyoursound.com
There are "Trance Engine" , "House Engine" and "Chillout Engine" which create chords structures and if you like one all other necessary midi like Acids, Basses, Arpeggios, Leads, etc in tens of variations each, which you can easily preview and dragndrop into the pattern...

Very nice, lightweighted and good working plugins with a kind and very good german developer!

ps. so chord editing with blocked/locked bass notes (together with the auto inversion) is not available in Captain Chords; it reverts to the default chord shape based on the complexity level in such cases

So many people on the forum are saying the Chord Gen crashes. I've used it many times and have tortured it basically and just get chords. Maybe the only thing different is I had the predecessor loaded as a Py Script file. I did also notice most of my scripts have disappeared. Maybe I have to reload them. I like Golden Pond and there was a nifty Harmonizer script.

I'm going back to 20 - not a fan of this 'shop in your' daw, vst etc crap...
Though it's good they gave you the option to 'hide' it but I think I'd rather it weren't there at all.

Much easier built in the DAW then doing it in a plugin. More cumbersome IMO.

^^^ yepp, both Scaler and the above-mentioned EZkeys stuff are integrated into Cubase, that's the best,

this one


but Scott mentioned somewhere that in a later iteration, the piano roll and chord generator will be usable simultaneously, like in Cubase, that would be fine

the audio is all over the place for me...channels go up and down depending on which one you click on...unusable right now

You know I had this issue and posted it on the Forum and was told I was crazy and needed to post the FLP. I thought it was the template I was using. I played around with a Basic 808 template with no gain stages and it didn't happen so I thought it was just an anomaly.

When this happens it's a strong hint that you've accidentally changed the gain on the "current" track (this is a sort of utility mixer track that the output of whichever track you've selected is routed to – super useful for visualisers, but it's a bit odd that it can also mess up the audio rather than being a parallel path that's muted by default).

You'll find this track in the mixer, it's marked with a C and has a large meter rather than gain and pan controls.

Nice shout.

For what it's worth. I never even considered utilizing the "Current" mixer track for anything other than for metering / analytic plugins.

It never crossed my mind that it could also be utilized to quickly audition/preview various effects across other highlighted/selected mixer tracks.

That might prove quite a useful feature, in certain situations. I mean, you could just link those mixer channels to a shared bus track, but using the "Current" mixer track might be quicker to test alternate settings, for some niche scenarios.
