Nothing? The only news I find is from two years ago. What gives?

Post

Two years isn't that long. It takes a few years to develop anything worth releasing as far as DAWs go.

I said I hadn't heard any news. The announcement of intent was a little over four years ago if I remember correctly. You'd think there would be some evidence by now.

I also seem to remember an estimate of 18 months for delivery. Not that I didn't think that wasn't wildly optimistic.

They haven't found the right code to clone yet..

This is from MusicTech (and I really hate what the 'Customer Branding Leader' was quoted as saying. :
With the DAW, the brand is being careful not to “recreate something that is already there,” says Götz Müller-Dürholt, Customer Branding Leader at Behringer.
“That’s a pretty steep task because you need to make us old folks who are used to a very specific DAW still find it approachable, but at the same time you need to really think of new ways to work with this.”
“So the now-15-year-olds [usually] don’t even have a computer anymore; just a phone or something,” he says, adding: “AI is a big topic right now, so the DAW is relatively far out at the moment.”

Maybe they are headed the Virsyn route and do a phone app.

To be a little fair. Bitwig was announced first in 2012 but didn't actually get released until 2 years later. To be a little unfair Bitwig at least was showing some screenshots and demos way before they finally released it.

These things take time though.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

I actually kind of dislike that everyone wants to reinvent the wheel instead of doing something like what Apple did and buy a leader, then dump money into it at a rate it's previous owners could not. There's something like 15 competitive DAWs out there now, and 8 are "leaders".

Maybe not reinventing the wheel, but consolidating it is the way in the future. All of the old DAWs have mediocre at best UX, and the new ones are missing features.

I really looked closely at getting Behringer Wing
https://www.behringer.com/behringer/pro ... e=0603-AEN

Thought it could be perfect as a hardware portastudio, kind of.
- it could handle 60 tracks on SD card
- all hardware faders, effect and everything
- it would be a dream, I felt

But talking to Behringer/MusicTribe it would not work.
- they did not design so you could listen to some tracks and record another

So to increase sales of those, they could fix that, instead of some daw that people just pirate copy and these things.
- hardware seems the solution to all this
- one reason Arturia CEO said they went hardware in an interview, being software only at first
- Behringer is going wild doing hardware synths too

Tascam though have a series of mixers Model 12, 16 and 24.
They do it all on SD card. and said to have better electronics than DP series.
- but computer really work well these days
- dual monitors and such a bliss

If Behringer would to go dawmaking I would think making a bid at Cockos Reaper and make that a true user friendly software that looked top notch.
- but why, really, just freeriders using Reaper to a large extent

There were a poll at Cockos forum 10 years ago on how many thought Reaper should stay never ending trial for free
- about 80% said they wanted that to remain

You realize that's a long-time and successful business model since shareware existed? REAPER tends to attract a crowd that believes in the model. It's the 20% of i-got-mines you should be worried about.

Isn't the B DAW one of the cancelled projects?
They cancelled a ton of projects when the holding company was put up for sale (Nobody wanted it at the asking price if i remember right?)
Every DAW that Behringer have touched has turned to crap anyway, XT, Tracktion, Tracktion are trying to claw their way back, but it might take them a while.

Behringer neither "touched" energyXT nor Tracktion I think. As far as I remember they only distributed each of both at some point for a while.

It is a British saying, it means "Had anything to do with" IE distributed them.

Ignoring maintenance could be described as touching the evolution, progress...

I doubt that they would be successful while Justin is still interested in writing software. AFAIK, he has more money than he needs and is motivated by living his vision. I could be wrong of course.

I agree though, I'm not a Behringer hater, but I'm not interested in any large corporation's take on Reaper. I will continue to upgrade Reaper as long as Cockos is running the show unhindered. When they sell out, I will just use the last released version until the end of (my) time.
