It's been the most requested UA plugin to be ported to Spark so I think a little enthusiasm is to be expected. If it were the Little Labs Voice of God plugin, I don't think people would be quite as stoked.

Well they’re not actually features of an Ampex ATR-102…

Oh no! I don't really care about the hiss, but there was a presets called "baked Cassette tape" which sounded exactly like that (cassette tape left in a hot car for too long) which heavily used the wow and flutter. Can anybody check if that preset is still there, as those feature are removed now?

Those features still exist in the UAD-2 version.

On the native version there is only an on / off switch, but not the fine tune knobs anymore. So it's a fixed value now.

Thanks! Yeah I think that's it! Have sold my UAD hardware plus software years ago, so I might remember the exact name wrong, but it had the word "baked" in it for sure.

Guess they'll handle the overall wow and flutter control internally, cause if it'd be a fixed value this preset wouldn't sound anything like what it's name says.

I've never had the fortune of operating the real machine but the plugin has a very good "sounds like a finished mix" thing to it that is extremely pleasant to my ears. It's completely unique in it's sound signature and none of my other tape options has that (I have Satin, all IK Multimedia tapes and various free plugins and my own tape experiments.. oh and of course I even have a couple of real tape machines too). I never really thought of it as a tape emulation.. just as a general sweetener that always lives on the mixbus. I'm super happy to have that available again!

I'm completely new to the Ampex and have to say I'm absolutely thrilled with it. Will be a go-to when I need that gluey but glossy polished thing going on

Universal Audio had selective plugins on sale at $39 for a while, and now they're holding them firm at $49 as their lowest sale price. Coupons no longer work on plugins under $89. $89 seems to be the standard (non-sale) price now.

UAD do these bundle deals of 178 plugins for $99 or whatever it is. So they're definitely in the Waves ballpark.

My guess is they simplified the workflow for Luna and the native version is a port of that.

I am confused. I just got an UA email saying I can claim my free copy of ATR-102. Are they giving this away for free to people? I bought it yesterday. I am on the verge of being highly annoyed at UA, so please let me know if you know what the deal is with this.

If you have the non-native version and/or if you meet certain other conditions of having many other certain plugins then you get it free. Think there was more info on GS.

UAD still worth it?
