It has arrived with Rev 15349, looking forward to hearing our users' comments on it.

It's a wonderful addition to the synth. Having great fun with it.

Playing with SM3 right now- really nice work, sounds great and easy to use. However I got a free preset bank (Nori Ubukata Sounds of the World) with my purchase but when trying to import it via the synth as instructed, I'm told there are none in my account. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but don't know what!

Did you download the expansion with SM2 ? Please do so: Click on the preset name on the top header, select "Restore my expansions" menu. Once SM2 downloads, restart your DAW. SM3 will see the new expansion.

No matter how I do it every time I try to import a sample or multiple samples I get a file missing error in the sample mapping/zone screen.

I've tried the New sample approach, dragging and dropping directly. Always the same error. I can see it scan the folder but the samples just don't show up.

Mac OS latest version, Ableton Live 12 latest version, Mac M1.

New customer :) So much stuff to play around with. A question: Using the Va oscillator and the sub together with exactly the same waveforms there's a small phasedrift on note-on when phase "Free" is turned off. And when "Free" is turned on i get no phase drift. I may be missing something here, but shouldnt it be the opposite? (I've checked so that the drift/speed knob is at zero)

Are you using the granular oscillator? I have the same issue there as well. The samples work fine with the normal oscillator.

Post

Been enjoying the new granular osc. I have a few issues (struggling with the multi-sample editor, grain levels clipping hard with certain settings) but otherwise it works great and is fun to throw in as additional layers - This might be the first time i've played a software granular synth with MPE/Poly Aftertouch expressive support (outside of VCV patches).

I wonder, is a grain playhead visualization planned or is that too CPU intensive?

Post

I have one small issue with the new grain osc: I can't replace another osc with it, the grain osc isn't listed in the dropdown.
Otherwise it is really great! :-)
Looking forward to grain visualisations, that would help have a clearer vision of what is going on.

Thanks!

Granular OSCs seem to be missing from the OSC tab options in general (both for Duplicate and Remove). Hopefully easy to fix!

Both options work again after "Replace with > regular osc".

Also
- right click on sample -> "New Sample"
- pick a sample folder in the dialog section
- pick a sample, then wait for scan+import
can still crash and softlock the synth via bad "C:\Users\Public\Documents\SynthMaster3\SynthMasterSamplesFolders.txt" folder entries if some sample in the directory breaks the import. This does not seem to create an error log or any other info on which sample caused the issue.

I know how to manually fix it at this point but bricking the entire synth permanently because of a faulty .wav among thousands without any error message or other indicator is frankly beyond "known shippable".

This bug prevents me from using my custom samples with SM3, I hope some form of error handling will be implemented. Apart from that, SM3 seems to be realy well made and has huge potential.

My workaround is:
- right click, "New Sample"
- select an empty folder
- cancel the file selection dialog
This basically opens an empty "Custom Multisample" sample editor while skipping the potentially fatal import scan (and imho should be the default behavior).
- Then i drag and drop my custom samples on the "Regions" view above the keys-display and adjust region ranges to cover stuff i want.

I also adjust the sample start-end points, but i'm not sure that has any effect on the Grain behavior?

Loving SM3, the only issue is that I'm getting a lot of "Missing sample definition for Layer: 1 Osc: 1 Wave: 1" errors when loading presets from SM2 (the Nori Ubukata presets as well as some others). Is there a way to resolve that issue? Thanks.

Using your workaround, I saved an oscillator setting that can be easily recalled. I called it “Initialize Multisample” – it contains a muted “Placeholder” group (empty wav file – 234ms of silence) and a “Default Group” where I can drop my samples. I load the presets by adding a basic oscillator and selecting "Initialize Multisample" from the dropdown list.

P.S. I did the same for Granular Oscillator, however, most of my samples are Stereo, so I need to wait for SM3 update to test it (at the moment SM3 Granular Oscillator suports Mono files only).
