Just subscribe for a few months a year e.g every 3 months, when feeling productive, and get access to a la carte Spitfire sounds spanning more libraries than most of us would want to buy. Much better option than paying hundreds of dollars on libraries that only get used a couple of times, because it turns out that outside of a very narrow performance niche (Not something that can be discerned from the amazing demo tracks) the library just doesn't fit with what you're writing.
The always-online aspect is definitely a lame, but I'm not sure it would be a show-stopper for me. If I can spice up my tracks with some top-class sounds, every so often, for very little entry fee, it might just be worth the stress...for me
