Drag and drop to the rack slot (where you usually can drag and drop effects) and I get the message:
"Could not recognize PLUGINNAME.vstpreset as a DLL" message and nothing happens.
It appears as if I can not drag and drop VST3 presets to load specific plugin and their settings. And MuLab tries to search for a DLL even though VST3 plugins have different extensions?
Hence my question, am I doing something wrong, or at this point, this is not possible?
Directly dropping a vst preset onto a rack slot / modular area indeed is not yet supported.

"Directly dropping a vst preset onto a rack slot / modular area indeed is not yet supported."

That would be a snazzy thing to be able to do.
I never even thought of that.

I may be missing something here,

Jo, have you thought about creating a 3rd modular level inside the racks themselves? This would be
useful for creating extra outputs / sends and doing complex signal routing between plugins.

You can drop a MUX into a rack slot. You can build custom racks using the slot module (which, IIRC, has an input and output for each I/O of its contained module) and do fully modular wiring with custom front panels, etc. What are you after?

Pekbro is talking about the racks themselves.
It's something i already started researching a year ago (spring 2023), but had to pause it then due to some structural barriers at that time. Now synchronicitously these days there is an interesting further development of that here in the dev lab. But it's too early to already comment in more detail. Stay tuned.

Thanks jo, intrigued and looking forward to that :tu:

*Still considering things for that mockup of the side panel, I don't want it to be full of unrealistic
requests. Of course, a modular scope within the racks changes things a bit as well...

It's been possible in every DAW I tried. Well apart from MuLab. Really a good way to organize your FX by categories for example and then you have a folder for specific FX (named after that FX) that contains your favorite presets. You just drag and drop them into a session/mixer and move on.

Quite a good workflow enhancer. The bonus is that these presets are DAW agnostic and can be shared throughout every other DAW.

A gratuitous screencap of the alpha happily running a bit of a cool and interesting plugin (on a pretty modest 11th gen i5, 12 gb ram). Notice how similar the overall color scheme is between the 2, I changed a couple things, but overall it's the default. Anyway, to me this is indicative of the very excellent graphic design sensibilities exhibited in MuLab... :tu:

Hi Jo, is the Mac version coming soon, or is the code too deep in the Windows-specific code for now? Thanks!
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

I'm indeed deep into dev mode. I'm having a serious relook at the racks and rack desk. Can't give details about it yet, nor whether it will succeed or not, but research & prototyping is progressing well for now. When there will be a next MuLab test version, feel free to ping me again about the mac version. Thx for asking! Meanwhile please help making MuLab more known by sharing great music videos via your social media, mentioning/demoing MuLab :phones: :tu:

Below a screenshot of what is in the pipeline: The renewed racks.

Currently MuLab racks are limited to 6 slots. No more, no less.
Also applying more complex routings like side-chaining or using multi-input/output plugins may be a bit unhandy via the "Setup Aux In/Out".

Now the new racks become plain MUX Modular patches.
Whether a MUX patch is regarded a rack or not, and thus whether it's to be included in the rack desk, simply is the existence of at least one Rack Slot module.

Thanks to this new modularity, racks can now have any number of slots instead of the fixed 6.
Also thanks to this new rack modularity, racks are fully editable from modular side, which is handy when you want to use more complex rack routing like side-chain, multi-output synths, multi-input effects etc.

On top of that you also get control over the rack desk height which makes it possible to have larger rack faders & meters, and view more slots.

Curious for your thoughts & feelings about this.

I dig it. Nothing but upside as far as I can see.

Good idea, hope it makes things easier now.
Will a new rack still have a default six slots? If not, could we have that please.

The very default will be 8 slots because there was a general bit of grumble that 6 slots was too few.
But you can make your own default rack, eg. with 6 slots, and save it as "New Rack.Mux".
That special preset will be used whenever clicking the + rack button.

Ah ok, that's great, thank you.
