Natural Selection explores an evolutionary process with sound design! It treats the parameter values of presets as DNA values which are mixed together and mutated over generations to create new sounds. You play the role of the environment, selecting preferable sounds to continue to pass their DNA to the next generations. And over the generations the sound will evolve closer to your preferences, or mutate to something unexpected! Sound design with your sonic intuition, without even touching the synth parameters (unless you want to;))! There is a lot involved in each device so check out the links below!

There are two devices. This one lets you evolve presets of an internal poly synth / rhythm generator / FX system:

This one lets you evolve preset of any device or rack of devices in Ableton:
https://dillonbastan.com/store/maxforli ... election-p

And here is a bundle of both:
https://dillonbastan.com/store/maxforli ... ion-bundle

enjoy and thanks so much for your support which allows me to keep making these and eat :)

This bundle includes all Natural Selection devices for $40 :https://dillonbastan.com/store/maxforli ... ion-bundle

Please give a review.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

It's easier to write in a piano roll and to read from sheet music, so a functioning hybrid solution is definitely welcome.

pretty awesome that everyone is learning m4l just to solve their own issues (so I don't have to :D )
win-win, AL definitely has the critical user base.

Change my mind: Basically all current M4L MIDI chord tools are fundamentally pointless, don't represent how musicians think about music, and are just useless toys. Vomiting giant lists and palettes of all combinations of chords and their possible voicings and extensions in random fashion will help you to compose music about as much as randomly flipping through a dictionary will help you to write poetry.

What is needed is an intelligent, context-aware tool, one which eg has options for automatic voice leading / picking the correct inversions, which offers chord suggestions both based on basic theory (Circle of 5ths etc) but perhaps even based on a real-life corpus of music, and which keeps out unneeded clutter and lets you quickly A/B test different voicings and extensions to maximize productivity.

From all I have seen so far such a thing does not exist (yet). Or does anyone have any suggestions?
it just depends on your perspective: do you want to create music or do you want to have music created by tools and you do some ear candy and call it "my music"? Ableton's midi tools are quite useful for people, who want to create music and want to have some helpful tools.

By the way, when it comes to chords, it's definitely worth mentioning the Push. You can try out quite a few variations in a short amount of time, with all kinds of inversions, etc. It's a useful tool.

for ex.

Which ones? Please screenshot or link.

edit: found it.

StepArp is an evolution of a classic device first found in the max for live essentials pack many years ago. It is a Step-based arpeggiator.

Rhythmic Steps is a Step Sequencer designed to work well with Drum Racks. Its core strength is in the ability to create ever-changing polyrhythms via an intuitive and simple user interface.

SQ is inspired bye classic hardware sequencers and offers stepped control over Pitch, Octave, Velocity, Length, Time Shift, Ratchet, Condition.
