Dunno really, even with fair amounts of amp simulation and EQ-ig I don't find this impressive. I thimk 4Front Bass is better (and so are hudreds of free SFonts around), and a friend of mine makes such wicked basslines with Fruity BooBass that it's scary really (especially since the little f**ker doesen't even have amp envelope).vurt wrote: vb1

yeah, maybe - but Vurt got it right - it depends on how you use itpeejunk wrote:Dunno really, even with fair amounts of amp simulation and EQ-ig I don't find this impressive. i spent ages searching for a dirty delay machine.wrench45us wrote: what about delays vs. reverb for fx?
i imagined it like to have some effects and modulations on the echos, like bitreducing, filter, pitchshift etc. so as time goes you get grungier and dirtyer echos.
does anyone know something like this?

it seems like most of the descriptions i've read on the net of styles of music given by electronic musicians similarly attempt to discern genres by the instrumentation/techniqueluCiPHer wrote: what is trip hop...

i'd like to challenge you to start looking for the ideas in things.. to be able to identify them and describe them.. because it seemed quite clear to me, even from the little 'certified trip-hop' i've heard, that the name connotes (a) the environmental setting, eg. 'hop,' and (b) the concept of.. erm.. introspective involvement, the 'trip..' ie. music in the contemporary fashion for "thinking about your life" :p (lol sounds dangerous i know but i'm sure the tunes are safe as f**k)
ya know.. if you describe other musics like this, idea/setting/medium it makes a lot more sense/insight than just listing the medium. it jsut comes off a bit 'action man/cindy' 'g.i.joe/barbie' to think that trip-hop producers have a little trip-hop kit accessory pack with a little plastic sp1200 or something in it.

RetroDelay has an option to toggle saturation or digital clipper on/off, so it's got a little juice to it..luCiPHer wrote:not too "dirty" but a must-have anyway: e-phonics retro delay
Automate this parameter & you'll have the decrepitude over time you are seeking..

but with that post i wanted to say that trip hop is more than "pick a sample off an old funk record" ...

This also works if you don't have access to old funk records:

a bit of a necro-bump here, but if anyone lands on this thread looking for a delay that degrades and gets progressively grungier on each repeat: Soundtoys EchoBoy and FabFilter Timeless 3 are the standards now. Timeless 3 let you put filters, saturation, and pitch drift directly inside the feedback loop so the echos crumble more and more over time.

Paul Cheeba has a bunch of drum hits he recorded for free on GS that weren't available when this thread was made. Great stuff.
