Melda's installer allowed me to only install what I wanted. In fact it was one of the best installers I ever used.rafa1981 wrote: Wed Aug 10, 2022 8:26 pm I got some freebie from IK and I installed it. I got dozens of unasked plugins on my hard disk that I couldn't use.
I didn't even test the freebie and erased everything. Luckily it happened to me on the first interaction through freeware, so no hard feelings at all as there was no money and almost no time lost. The exact same thing happened with Melda, but those where harder to remove fully for some reason I don't remember.
how to have IK Multimedia install only owned plugins

Studio One does allow you to hide plugins.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Aug 11, 2022 4:36 pmDeleting only works as long as you never update. Otherwise you're repeatedly doing it. If your DAW's Plugin Manager allows you to hide the ones you don't own, you don't have to hide the plugins again after an update. It's once and done.ramseysounds wrote: Wed Aug 10, 2022 10:56 am Just delete the ones you don't need. Annoying but the only workaround I know of
If your DAW doesn't allow you to hide plugins (looking at you Studio One), then contact your DAW-maker with a feature request.

[*]I had this problem with T-Racks. The only workaround for me was to create a python script to remove the unused .component files (I'm using AU).
I used to tag the plugins I use in green in finder and manually delete the unused ones. But this doesn't work after reinstalling T-Racks!!
I will attach the Python Script
NB: Read and edit the script before running (especially the commented ones), this will remove .component files of various TR5 plugins

On Mac, use Audio Plugin Uninstaller from Wide Blue Sound.
https://www.widebluesound.com/audio-plugin-uninstaller
As Funkybot mentioned back in 2022, T-RackS 6 is supposed to let you choose which plugins to install. (It’s unclear if it will let you choose the format on Mac.)
But it’s been 2 or 3 years since TR6 was talked about by IK reps, and it’s still not out. So maybe T-RackS has been abandoned?

I doubt it. They've been having a "last chance" sale on it for $49.jamcat wrote: Mon Aug 12, 2024 7:26 pm But it’s been 2 or 3 years since TR6 was talked about by IK reps, and it’s still not out. So maybe T-RackS has been abandoned?![]()
I suspect the next version is right around the corner.
Imagine how long it would take to update that number of plugins.

I got (quite) excited looking at the title of this post as I thought there was now a way of doing this. I've ignored IK Multimedia plugins for years simply because of the ridiculous installation method.

Melda installs every preset and support file for every plugin in their catalog even if you only install one of their plugins.ATS wrote: Mon Aug 15, 2022 10:42 am Melda's installer allowed me to only install what I wanted. In fact it was one of the best installers I ever used.
On Win 10 check Users/App Data/ Roaming. The folder size here is 750 megs and that's just one location. He spreads files all over your hard drive. When asked why he said "it's easier for him". So if one is going to complain about the IK bloat then one can not give Melda a pass.
This is just part of the list in one location:

All competent DAWs have a plugin manager that allows you to customize what plugins show in your list. Simply exclude the plugins you don't own from displaying in that list.dastewart wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:46 am I got (quite) excited looking at the title of this post as I thought there was now a way of doing this. There is no doubt that IK is one of the kings of bloatware and they've been called out on it over and over but I've now accumulated the entire TR-5 collection so it's no longer an issue here. But even before it was simply a matter of proper plugin manager maintenance.
I use multiple T-Racks plugins in every project because I really like their sound quality so to me passing on those plugins just because the installer might require some manual maintenance (if hard drive space is that critical) seems illogical, but you do you.

I did this with the demo, removing all the ones made by IK. Saved me even more space and time.ramseysounds wrote: Wed Aug 10, 2022 10:56 am Just delete the ones you don't need. Annoying but the only workaround I know of
This was at least 2 years ago, and I haven't touched anything from them since. No loss or regret.
