Are tube sockets hard to replace btw?

Rw that ‘broken’ Laney VC30 in my link..I was thinking contact cleaner/ a new pot might fix it up (?) not done amp repairs like that yet tbh.
Never changed any tube sockets.

A Kemper might be a better option for the recording/non gigging guitarists. (I found most Kemper profiles to be all too similar with no individuality like real amps.)

Oh ..u mentioned u had valve sockets for the Laney to do a replacement down the track or something.

I tried Kemper same impression. I just use AmpSim software for recording.
I tried the new Tonex pedal this week not impressed. same same wrt digital units they won’t replace the sound of tubes outside recording for me.

Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day bought his Marshall used. My buddy opened it up and found that the previous owner had completely modded it, unrecognizable from the stock circuit. Green Day would not have had that guitar sound if he had bought a new amp.

Slash was a similar story, although that amp was rented.

got a cheap strat w 3 x proper exe Duncan pickups for $100.. plus an old ‘broken’ Russian Big Muff for $50 w just a loose wire on the battery pad :D whoop!
Don't blame the salesman! :hihi:

I got my 1960 Tweed Deluxe for $40 that way. The bulb was burnt out, everything else about it was perfect. On the flip side, the junky who stole my Strat probably got less than $40 for it at a pawn shop since it didn't have a brand name. The pawn shop probably didn't figure out that it was all Warmoth parts with Kinman pickups, so someone got a deal.

Your buddy had BJAs Marshall? Wow. :o 8)
How did that happen can I ask..
I possibly saw that one on a Rig Rundown all customised in purple or pinkish red . It’s appearance was unrecognisable as a Marshall if I recall.

What was Slash’s amp - a silver jubilee?
Ironic that Slash basically rebooted Gibsons Les Paul with so many signature variants/ models/ releases. When his AFD LP was actually a replica by a builder not a Gibson. Strange why that guitar builder did not capitalise and release his own “Slash AFD” model ..(and become a millionaire no doubt) :?

Another bit of trivia / amp lore :
Ritchie Blackmore was originally a fan of Vox amps. He went to Marshall to get an amp built but Marshall couldn’t get the sound to match his favourite Vox . So he (or they) put his Vox amp inside a Marshall head instead so he could be seen touring with Marshall but get the sound he preferred.

Well, that’s what that guy down the pub told me anyway. And he knows everything. :hihi:

He was Chris Lord-Alge's second engineer and they were mixing Green Day at the time.

The amp Slash used to record Appetite For Destruction was a Marshall rented from SIR that Tim Caswell (also of Studio Electronics fame) had modded:

Not had any experience with these, it looks like a lot for the price, it depends on your requirements. Thomann sells similar from £77.

I'd check out non-promoted reviews, someone else here might be able to chip in.

A reviewer whose opinions I trust is below, even though the video mentions promoted.

A tweed amp doesn't sound like that.

The Eleca SET5 or Epiphone Valve Jr. would be better choices for someone looking for a tweed sound. They're basically 1959 Tweed Princeton circuits. They're both too quiet to use with a drummer, but then so are these BanTamP's.

True. It sounds more like a Vox there.
Which is pretty cool actually I liked his demo. You’re right. My fender 25R has enough volume and cut to keeps up with a drummer who n a small room..but doubtful that Bantamp has the same kinda 20W output. Depends on ohmage-out and components right?
Ive had a modded valve Jnr but yeah too quiet for practice.
Conversely had a 5W HW head “valvetone” made in Melbourne that was quite a bit louder.
weird that wattage thing how it works.

Now eyeballing a Fender Mustang v2 100W digital combo from this demo;
(After all my ranting about digital modelling :ud: :hihi:)
But Fender do digital Fender well. And I wanna save my back.
And I like they have a Sears Silvertone type amp in there plus a Hiwatt Vox and a Marshall :hyper:
Ill take it for a spin today.

Also came across this randomly :hihi:

Steven Seagulls :ud: guitar collection is quite amazing also.
