Waldorf MicroWave as a plugin?

I'm quite curious if any owners of the hardware have used the software as a patch editor, and if so - how do they find it. Potentially a game changer for fans of the hardware ?

He creates a patch from init here as an example and he also compares the sound of both the hardware VS the plugin.

I know. When I saw it announced on Gearspace, I was a strange mix of happy and betrayed. Happy I could get the synth I’d been GASing for, but angry that they hadn’t at least hinted that it may have been working on it, so I wouldn’t have made other plans and acted on them.sl1200mk2 wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:19 pmI had no idea they had a desktop module. Well, that certainly changes things. I really thought I was nearing the end of my hardware purchases, with an Iridium being last on my list next year. Having a 3rd Wave as a desktop module is GAS inducing for sure.zerocrossing wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 5:04 pm I didn’t either, which is why I bought the M, even though I really wanted the 3rd Wave. Then they released the desktop, which was a bit of a burn, considering they said they weren’t interested in doing one. When they did, I made the swap, even though I lost money in the process. I figured, I can always make more money, but not more time having the exact thing that I wanted.
Oh well, I did have fun times with the M. Great synth, but the 3rd Wave has all of what I thought was great about the M, and a lot more. Cost a lot more too, but like my dad is found of saying, “it’s only money.” Oddly, he often said that as he was being super cheap.
I’m a huge fan of the vintage hybrids, but not so much that I’d deal with an antique instrument that needs upkeep and costs a lot. Not to mention the lack a lot of features that I have come to appreciate over the years. With the 3rd Wave, TAL Sampler, Prophet VS V, impOSCar and now this, I feel like I have a great representation of everything I ever wanted with vintage hybrids.

Waldorf Nave VSTi for PC graphics are still unstable, not refreshing right, producing glitches and hangups (even on my Radeon 6900XT) and yet they release a new VSTi of basically same nature without ironing out even most obvious bugs on their long existing synth.
Great music company with terrible product support.

CPU consumption is ok when you are using one layer, it jumps drastically when you use more than one layer, i hope they will improve it in future updates because i think it should be much more efficient considering the lack of effects

Really seems they have done a good job with this. I only hope this renewed focus on plugins means their older plugins will also get some attention

I wanted to try the demo version, but forgot my account password. I tried the reset password function so it would send me a link to do that, but never received it. Nothing in my spam folder either since yesterday.
EDIT: I just tried it again today and am still waiting. It's weird, as I know I have an existing account and the email address is the same, etc.

Actually, I take that back and stand corrected. Seems they released an update like 2 months ago and graphics lag on PC has been fixed. Geez. Took them years. But better late than never I guess. Thank you, Waldorf!SouledOut wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 10:20 am Waldorf Nave VSTi for PC graphics are still unstable, not refreshing right, producing glitches and hangups (even on my Radeon 6900XT) and yet they release a new VSTi of basically same nature without ironing out even most obvious bugs on their long existing synth.

Is anyone else having an issue whereby the Microwave 1 plugin keeps asking for their activation information (email address and activation key)? This almost always happens in Cubase 13 Pro in macOS Sonoma when I instantiate a new instance of the plugin on a separate track. This even occurs sometimes when I simply open the plugin interface again on an existing track.
I'm wondering if this could be the result of first using the demo version and then the paid version. For whatever reason, my activation credentials are just not "sticking."
Thank you for your help.

I bit the bullet and bought the plugin. I've no experience of the HW to be honest. But I freakin' love this thing! I'm a little surprised that it didn't come with much in the way of FX because it gorgeous with a bit of reverb.
Anyway, great job Waldorf!!

I owned an original Microwave for a long time until just recently. So I am very familiar with how the modulation system works. And I never really felt that a mod matrix would improve the hardware Microwave. In fact, it might have been detrimental.
But now that I am seeing the Microwave 1 plugin UI, I realize that it is more cluttered with knobs and text than it needs to be. There are often many modulation assignments that go unused in a Microwave patch. So these controls just clutter up the UI, IMO.
Of course the Microwave 1 UI is nowhere near as busy as Cherry Audio's Dreamsynth which takes a somewhat similar approach to modulation. The Dreamsynth UI is so dense and cluttered (with the same color controls and background throughout) that I sometimes get a bit lost when using it. It sounds very different from the Microwave 1 plugin, of course. But Dreamsynth is still cool. It sort of sounds like a mix between an old school ROMpler and something like the D50.

Do you have an issue with Nave's patch browser whereby the patches listed in the far right column will not scroll properly? It's like the browser won't let me scroll past however many patches will fit in the vertical height of that right column. Whenever I scroll down to see more patches and select a patch, the list of patches in the column "snaps down" to the patch I selected and places it at the bottom of the column (even if I selected the patch at the top or middle of the column). I know this is probably hard to visualize. I will post a screenshot of the behavior if need be. So I basically just use the patch increment/decrement buttons to audition patches.SouledOut wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:06 amActually, I take that back and stand corrected. I'm using a 14" M1 Max MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma, btw.
Regardless, I probably won't use Nave (or Largo or PPG 3.V) much anymore now that there is the Microwave 1 plugin which sounds better to me and has a more functional UI than the rest of these Waldorf plugins. I only bought these other wavetable plugins from Waldorf because I was trying to find a software replacement for my Microwave. And now I've found it in the Microwave 1 plugin!
