i Posted this in another forum and they recommended i go here instead.
im running waveform free 13 with a 16 GB Ram windows 11 pc
and i have been having issues with the traction download manager. After i installed waveform i went back and installed the attracktive plugin, that seemed to work, after that i installed the Attracktive content content plugin and i got the following error saying
"The download file doesn't exist" i tried redownloading it and restarting the manager, restarted my pc, nothing worked so, then tried deleting the first plugin i installed, cause i had a dumb thought that it was possibly making the second one glitch, well, that just made things worse now both are messed up and the first one loads onto waveform but says "the following files encountered fatal errors during validation" then crashes waveform. Not entirely sure what i did wrong? i tried reinstalling them plenty of times :help: .

You probably did nothing wrong, The Download Manager has occasional issues. Go to the Tracktion website and sign in. Go to the option MyDownloads and download the items you want to update. Any you download, double click the downloaded file. Possibly best to do this with Waveform closed down. When you're done, reopen Waveform. The Download Manager should have updated itself and you may need to scan for new plugins.

Apologies - I've just tried the manual method and found that the Attracktive content file is not one that uses a set -up run, but I'll show you how to do it manually.

I've downloaded the Attraktive content, along with Theia and the Theia content from the Tracktion website. Theia and its contents are both downloaded as .exe files and run with a double-click as mentioned in my previous post.

The Attraktive content needs to be copied from the download location to the location that Attraktive expects to find it. This latter location is not easy to navigate to using Windows File Explorer, so I'll give you a different way, as follows:

first, I'm making two assumptions:
1. that you (or subsequent readers who want to try this method) are not familiar with DOS and
2. that you have never moved your Downloads folder from the standard installation location.

This is a DOS method to move the content to the right place.

0. Do this with Waveform closed down.

1. Press the Windows key and R. This will bring up a dialogue box with a black background. The last line will say something like c:\Users\Linda> It might not say Linda, but whatever you named your PC.

2. Copy (highlight it and hit Ctrl-C) the text below into a text editor (Notepad, perhaps) and change the two instances of YOURNAME to Linda or whatever your PC is called.

copy c:\users\YOURNAME\downloads\BioTek*.content c:\users\YOURNAME\appdata\roaming\tracktion\content\

3. Copy the edited text, return to the dialogue box opened in step 1, and paste in the text (Ctrl-V). It should appear after the c:\Users|Linda> bit.

4. Press Enter. This should copy the Attraktive content to its proper place and it should say so. If not, make a note of what it says and get back to me.

5. Type the word exit and press Enter to close the dialogue box.

6. Start up Waveform and open up Attracktive (I did it by placing Attraktive on a track). It should tell you that it's loading new content. If this has worked, you can delete the downloaded file from your Downloads folder.

Note: when I click on Help/Check for Updates, it tells me that I have version 1.08 of Theia and that 1.14 is available (and everything else is up to date). However, if I open up Theia, it tells me it is version 1.14. If I open the Download Manager, it tells me I have version 1.14.

Fingers crossed!

The Assumptions you mentioned earlier are correct. I Very much appreciate the time you put into writing this. Although i feel bad, after i followed the instructions you sent (which were very well written) i knew that i wrote my name correctly, and windows said that it could not find the user "make sure you typed your name correctly" i checked the file explorer on the files which said where they were located and had the user (my name), found i had the name correct. im assuming theres other errors possibly And it thinks my name is spelled wrong. can never be sure though. Did i possibly miss something?

Perhaps your name consists of several words separated by a space? In this case, you need to mark the entire address in which you use your name with quotation marks.

Code: Select all

cd C:\Users\one two free\Documents

the folder does not exist

Code: Select all

cd "C:\Users\one two free\Documents"

all fine open
then, of course, the number of steps decreased quite a lot, instead of going into the explorer settings, turn on the display of hidden files in Explorer and normally go directly to the desired folders on disk C.
Bold text can be found in the search engine.

In any case, you need to find out and figure out how it works, which folders, where, and what they are responsible for.

Unfortunately, the upload manager is still terribly raw

And to be honest, I could not decipher your subsequent actions, why everything broke down further, I would recommend that you do not start checking all absolutely folders and files, if possible, uninstall absolutely everything and install everything, including waveform from scratch manually, with one condition, after you completely uninstall everything, you you should definitely open the file explorer and type in the address bar

Code: Select all

%AppData%
press enter, find the Tracktion folder, select it and hold down the SHIFT button, click DELETE, agree to complete deletion, then start installing everything from the beginning

If things are still not as required, there is another way to get hold of whatever your PC thinks YOURNAME is.

Open up File Explorer. See if you can navigate to the folder that appears to be c:\Users\YOURNAME

You will probably need to look within the (supposed) folder name This PC

There is a bar that shows the location of the folder or you are currently in. By clicking on a folder in the middle part of the screen, you should be able to get the location on the bar (which runs across the screen below the various action icons, so around an inch down) to say something like

ThisPC > C: > Users > YOURNAME

It doesn't matter if it's not exactly that, just as long as YOURNAME is one of the folder names included. Assuming it is, right-click on YOURNAME and choose Copy Address as Text.

Now you should have an address containing what the PC thinks your userid is, so try to re-edit the copy command from step 2 to include this version of YOURNAMEm which you can do by pasting (ctrl-V) into your text editor (it'll probably say "c:\Users\YOURNAME) and by making the necessary tweaks. Then try steps 3 onwards to copy the .content file to the right place.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. my name doesn't consist of any spaces but thanks a lot for giving the steps! Yeah to be honest your probably more than right about just deleting everything, i thought about that in the beginning, but will definitely make sure its all cleared in the file explorer now with the code you sent. im not even sure what caused the issue, so it would be hours of troubleshooting Especially with figuring out file stuff can take an eternity. I was still troubleshooting with traction support, but probably end up deleting everything. thanks a lot again!! really appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks for getting back with me. unfortunately, i got another error this one was different, now its saying "Location is not available, the file name or volume syntax is incorrect",(as in the download Folder(which i never modified, so it should have worked) checked to see if i could see anything wrong with the code but it seemed to match with my system.

If you can navigate with File Explorer to the folder your downloads are in, you can copy that file and the path to it from the location bar, by right-clicking and copying the address, in the same way as finding the YOURNAME location described above.

And paste it in the part where it says Downloads on the code you made?
