What I find interesting (apart from the fact they seemed to have left out a ribbon from their GUI) is they seem to done a layout that even I could understand not find intimidating, which I always found the hardware to appear.

Model 77 is it, then!

Looks like they've done a great job on the UI. :tu:

Also, I wondered whether they'd break their own rules about effects and couldn't resist including a reverb, likely 224-derived, for this, and the "reverb" slider would suggest so...

Yes, it's a CS80. It was the CS60 that was single layer...

Nooo they had to go and waste screen real estate with the vents. Doesn't look like you'll be able to hide the keyboard either. Ah well, I'm sure it'll sound good.

Interesting translation from that site: "The circuits of three legendary Japanese synths released in 1977 have been modelled and accurately recreated in every detail, all in one easy-to-use plug-in"

Softube /소프튜브/ Model 77 Dual Layer Synth /Model 77 Dual Layer Synth/ delivers the most influential sounds of our time. The Model 77 Dual Layer Synth recreates iconic sounds used in countless films and hit songs, including <Blade Runner>, <Chariots of Fire>, "Billie Jean", "Africa", and "Human Nature".

Modeled and recreated in every detail the circuits of three legendary Japanese synthesizers released in 1977, they are packaged into a single, easy-to-use plug-in. The sound, interaction, and performance are as close as possible to the original hardware, while the complex interface has been refined through an intuitive redesign. Now the most coveted synthesizer offers a workflow worthy of it.

Key Features

The authentic sound, interaction and performance of three legendary Japanese hardware units released in 1977.
A new, intuitive interface redesigned for an improved, modern workflow.
Includes three versions: Instrument, 7 modules for Modular , 2 modules for Amp Room

The Art of Rock and Roll Science

Softube’s reputation for improving workflows and delivering exceptional sound quality is solid. Partnerships with premium brands like Tube-Tech, Solid State Logic , SSL, Chandler Limited , Weiss Engineering , and Trident span decades. Softube’s passion for this legacy, expert modeling, and loving attention to detail led to the creation of the Model 77 Dual Layer Synth. Because it takes heart, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll science to create an innovative, high-quality synthesizer plug-in.

Time for a redesign

When designing the Model 77, we put a lot of effort into creating a more efficient user interface to make the plug-in easier to navigate. The two layers are directly accessible from the front panel, but they are designed so that you can focus on only one layer at a time. This improvement allows you to quickly and confidently adjust your sound. We also redesigned the positioning of each section to make the signal flow easier to understand. The 'Ring Mod' section now matches its position in the signal flow and in the interface. You can use the balance sliders between the upper and lower layers to switch between layers and adjust the parameters of each layer.

Reproducing classic sounds

Because we had to include presets that can be heard on so many amazing recordings, the Model 77 includes all of the original factory presets for all three synthesizers. In addition to the single layer presets, the Model 77 features dual layer presets that allow you to recreate famous classic sounds by combining the upper and lower layer presets.

Latest features

Beyond simple modeling, the Model 77 adds features and workflow improvements like stereo processing and DAW sync to seamlessly integrate the authenticity of a classic into modern productions. A new aging slider is also included to simulate vintage ambience with oscillator drift, filter cutoff, pulse width, and envelope time, letting you adjust between a modern, stable sound and a vintage one. A new stereo algorithmic reverb lets you recreate classic hit sounds, while the reverb slider lets you adjust the dry/wet and decay time of the reverb for increased expressiveness.

Tip: Polyphonic Aftertouch

The Model 77 is the first instrument to support true polyphonic aftertouch for some parameters included in the expanded view. If your MIDI keyboard is polyphonic aftertouch compatible, you will benefit greatly, but even if it is not, regular aftertouch is supported.

Included Software

Model 77 Dual Layer Synth: The most requested synthesizer in the Model series. A synth set that many producers and artists want to own, the circuitry, interactions, and performance of this legendary synthesizer have been expertly modeled so that anyone can enjoy the true sound and experience of the hardware.
Model 77 for Modular: Model 77 features seven modules, from an oscillator for Modular to a dual-mode filter, amplifier, envelope generator, LFO, ring modulator, and reverb. Combine individual components in a Modular workflow to create iconic sounds heard in countless hit songs.
Model 77 for Amp Room: The Model 77’s Amp Room module consists of a ring modulator and reverb, allowing you to create unique sounds for guitar and bass on the Amp Room platform.

Sounds like it emulates the CS50, CS60 and CS80 (with the CS80 being a superset of the other two) and has some new features such as the reverb and an aging slider to increase the vintage imperfections.

Thanks.. so they found three of them to model?

oh probably as you say, three different models of the cs
They were all released the same year? interesting.

Does anyone know what the CS 50 and CS 60 does that the CS 80 doesn't' also cover?

Holy hell, not only did they not keep a bunch of annoying stuff on the original exactly as-is, they even improved upon the original by modifying the layout! Sacrilege!

...but the good kind. ;)

Is it too early to speculate on what the *next* Softube instrument will be...? :D

It looks like that area is also for an expansion panel, so I guess it probably hides the keyboard if it shows other controls like some other synths do.

No, I think it's saying that it comes in 3 versions: Instrument, Modular, and FX
