Model 77 Dual Layer Synth

Post

I like Softube's sound quality as much as the next person (Model 72 and Modular especially), but curious to hear if the people saying it's noticeably better than Arturia have compared it in context of a mix with drums and at least one other synth sound playing?

I understand that some people always want that last x% better, especially if you're the keyboard player in a band. In my experience/opinion, these comparisons between decent devs (like uhe, Gforce, RECENT Arturia, Softube) dont usually matter much in a mix. Sometimes they do though, so just curious if this is one of those cases.

I can tell this is another high quality emulation from Softube. It seems the CS-80 experience just isn't for me though. The sound and quirks of the synth don't inspire me.
I agree.
Take the Mellotron for example that sounded very lofi and crappy on it's own and was used in many songs in the 80s and it still managed to sound great in the context of the song.

They did indeed make a high quality Emulation of a CS Synth but they way it is layed out Makes it Closer to a CS70m with a Reverb effect added to it to mask how bad it sounds dry than a CS80 Emulation but it was a clever move instead of making a Overcrowded Gui since the CS 80 does not look great or classy on the Screen like the Real HW does :)

Now people can discover the power of Vintage Hype vs Reality by themselves.

They where great to play with and be creative with back in the Day when there was nothing else to choose from compared to all the options we have today.

We now have a new generation of Poly Aftertouch capable MIDI Keyboards from the likes of Novation and Native Instruments. PolyAT plus a ribbon controller is right MIDI File to A/B with hardware

The CS-80 has a rather unusual architecture with each oscillator having its own high and low pass filters, sine wave oscillators after the filters, etc. These quirks give the synth a rather unique character which sounds different from the vintage Oberheim, Sequential, and Roland polysynths. Some might call those buzzy bandpassed sounds 'thin,' but sometimes it's the sound that you want.

For example, I read that the Boards of Canada 'secret weapon' analog polysynth is a CS-70m. The polysynth that is heard on many tracks on the Geogaddi record certainly sounds like it could be a CS-series synth.

The only CS-80 Synth I have is Cherry Audio's GX-80 and I only got it because it was cheap, and cheap it does sound...
This one is easy to tweak and get really rich sounds out of. Instabuy.... at least for me :)

Yes. The CS80 is pretty unique and quirky and it is a Synth that you either love or hate because of it.
I am happy that they released it for those That love the CS80 and prefer Softube as a Brand over other companies even if it isn't for me.

I own all the other Models and maybe the next one will be something I want like a Elka Synthex or something else that I don't already own from another Company.

Must be because of another thread or posts must have been deleted here, as there’s nothing wrong I can see.

I think people are being weirdly harsh on the CS80.

I get that a lot of the original's appeal is its performance capabilities but I think it has a very distinctive timbre.

One thing that always made the CS80 stand out was its implementation of ring mod. It's a very signature part of the sound.

Model 77 nails it and avoids that weird noisy cramped sound of the Arturia and Cherry Audio.

It's also by far the most usable emulation I've used.

This thing sound amazing.

Does it take up a lot of hard drive space?
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

Keep in mind the CS-70m came out after the CS-80 and has a different sound.
