great, im looking forward for your feedbackzerocrossing wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 2:04 pmThanks. I’ve got a bunch of others too, but I always GASed for the Big Sky pedal, but couldn’t justify it in my setup. Now that it’s in software, there’s really no excuse to add it to my arsenal.Caine123 wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 2:01 pmHappy Birthday mate!zerocrossing wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 1:40 pmI don’t think there’s a single plugin that does everything that it does, but there are lots of plugins that cover parts of it. The thing is, they still don’t sound like the Big Sky, and you’ll probably end up spending a lot more going that route. I’m actually going to pick it up today. Happy birthday to me!Caine123 wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 11:34 am im peeping on this plugin always from time to time, is it really this good and nothing like it? im a sucker for ambient reverbs etc. but the price is heavy and was it on sale at all?![]()

Happy birthday ZC! It's a nice plugin. Unsurprisingly, pairs really well with guitars. Big Sky, in general, has got this wonderful midrange thing happening where the low-mids are somewhat subdued and tight, and the upper-mids just have a nice clarity. It sounds classy. I think I've only used it on guitars/keys here, but I use it there quite a bit and it doesn't disappoint. Great sounding plugin.
Just a bit of info for all: the only strike I have against the Big Sky plugin is that it's a nightmare for hardware control because each parameter is unique to each algorithm. So there's like Plate_Decay param, and a Plate_Predelay param, then you'll see versions of those for each algorithm. The benefit of that is that settings are retained so you can setup one instance, set the Plate to a particular sound, try out the Spring setting make some major tweaks, then go back to the Plate and it's right where you left it, go back to the Spring and that's right where you left it too. But not so great when you're trying to assign params in your DAW for hardware controllers.

I like this one a lot. Just wondering if they do December sales like other companies?
Price is quite steep and i think personally id rather pay a little more for one of the pedals

Also i have to wonder if charging £200 for a plugin is actually a good idea. Sure some people will pay that. But if it was say £49 or £99 how many more people would buy it. I cant help thinking it would be more profitable to charge less in the long run. Especially with software

I bought it when it first came out and I don't think there has been a sale. I am not sure it will ever be on sale as it risks cannibalising their hardware sales. Your not buying 1 BigSky pedal, you are buying an infinite number (I often use several per track, one on Magnito for tape delays, One on Room for reverb etc). PS- I also have the pedals, different use casesdiscogsaddict wrote: Sat Sep 07, 2024 10:49 am I like this one a lot. Just wondering if they do December sales like other companies?

A lot of plugins sell for over £200 and never go on sale and remain very popular- such as Omnisphere, Keyscape etc If you ever do come to sell you will find it holds its value, you wont loose much unlike other software that is eventually almost given away! I guess Stymon could have sold all the algorithms separately like Eventide do- £50 a pop for blackhole, shimmer etc...but if you add it up its cheaper this way! The are actually doing this currently with 2 flavours of delay for 99USD...I passed on the, BigSky is much better value! (PS- its 200USD, I cant remember how/where I did it but I paid in $ from the UK, so it was about 155 GBP)discogsaddict wrote: Sat Sep 07, 2024 10:53 am Also i have to wonder if charging £200 for a plugin is actually a good idea. (Did not remember wrote or not)
Tried BigSky demo seems year ago or so, in short - frankly expected more, passed. Considering hype about this device, and despite im fan of all sort of infinities/freezes lol.
For example, did not very impressed by character of infinity behavior itself (not bad \ not special, somehow by "evolvement" level - not special too).
Yes, here obviously a result of satiety by good reverbs. But nonetheless. Expected for some unique.
At the same time, a couple of non-reverb algorithms seemed fun.
Would grab for 40 or so. For 200 - no no.
Upd: even was idea - idk maybe hw sounds better a bit yet?

It isn't really a case of if the hardware sounds better (its the same DSP) , its about what is available in a 'hardware' format for people who play live and/or just want to use hardware. If you are 'ITB' then there are tons of great (and probably cheaper) options. Also this pedal was originally designed for guitars, the algorithms are bias that way...although plenty of synth players seem to like the hardware pedal it seems!c_voltage wrote: Sat Sep 07, 2024 12:48 pm Upd: even was idea - idk maybe hw sounds better a bit yet?

Its the live/hardware thing- its one of the best ambient 'hardware' reverbs you can get- but there are many more/cheaper options in the virtual world...I cant say if they are better or worse, that all subjective to taste...I have Blackhole/Vallhalla Shimmer and others, I prefer BigSky for 'that type of thing'.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."
