Model 77 Dual Layer Synth

Definitely think this sounds better than Arturia (that one does nice pads but has no attack/punch).

Does the Cherry one have mpe? That one the gui is a bit overwhelming though.

Few people have heard a real cs-80 so the usual argument of ST is the only well-modeled vst can’t apply. And cs-80 doesn’t seem to have a lot of sweet spots as a Juno so it’s harder to have instant gratification with M 77.
At least, it seems there’s no glitches on the UI graphics, so perhaps it affects the sound in a too polished way ?

This is a really strong indicator that they modelled a CS60, NOT the CS80. The 60 (more or less) being a single layer CS-80, except it’s missing?.. The chorus / tremolo effect!

The CS-80 benefits from any help it can get and Softube, adding a reverb, somewhat acknowledges this. It’s why the chorus is a bigger loss than it might appear. It really ISN’T a CS-80 emulation without the chorus. I suspect, if they could've sourced a CS-80, they would've. Hopefully they’ll add the chorus at some future point.

Regarding 100% CPU usage and “free running” analogue. It’s a virtual synth. EVERYTHING is faked. So I don’t think it unreasonable to ask companies also fake this aspect! But it takes additional time and effort to do well. They should do this and save their customers CPU and energy usage!

For those who think otherwise consider this: If U-he can figure this out then why can’t Softube? Whilst you may have a preference, for Model 80 or Repro 5, I don’t recall a single post anywhere on the internet which complains U-He’s approach is inferior because it manages the voices and has CPU usage be based on the actual polyphony used!

Seems punchy to me.

The electric pencil sharpener (2:50) is the secret to his sound.

Yes. But I wonder how many here work seriously to create songs and how many collect plugins to jabber about it online for a sense of community? Neither are wrong. There is no right in this case.

But knowing people's goals really adds (or detracts) weight to their opinions when we get into such arenas.

I used to also frequent photography forums and saw the same thing. Large group of people that loved to collect new gear and take snapshots, smaller group actively working to hone their craft with an end goal/pursuit of the best portfolio they could create.

Knowing what they were after really changed my perceptions of their opinions. Some guys were retired and just loved to go on and on about minutia that wasn't going to improve their photos. I think they mostly just enjoyed the community and connections within. But those were not really the folks to get much photo advice from since they were in it for different reasons.

Sometimes there’s also this idea that because we jibber-jabber about minutiae here that we aren’t also using the tools to create songs. This is not necessarily true. I love the chatter, and the instrument collecting and comparing, but it’s a totally different thing than my hobby of making music, or my profession of making music. So, while I know that typing about the difference between a synth that I’d never in a million years buy and a plugin that I probably will buy is silly and a waste of time, I do find it somewhat interesting.

I am too, as long as it doesn’t veer into poppycock and tomfoolery.

Ah I've always got time for some hogwash, balderdash, flimflam, nincompoopery and codswallop...

As long as those shenanigans don't result in skullduggery, and any bunkum malarky - ain't no-one got time for that hooey fiddle-faddle...

I like the way you think :D

I like how it sounds, but I wish the CPU usage was lower (while retaining same sound quality).

love Softube but no go on the 77, prefer the sound and overall control of Arturia. Steve is the CS 80 master.

I wish I felt the same! Nice pads and anything with soft attack. The minute you put the attack down and maybe sharpish decay then it’s just classic Arturia meh. Wish it wasn’t the case (as a v-collection owner) but the same thing drives me crazy with the Jupiter and ms-20 and several others.
