The synth is popular because it's easy to use, sounds great, and has many third-party preset banks if you don't want to create your own. The fact that many artists use it also contributes to its popularity. However, the primary reason people use it is simply that it's a great synth. If you don't find it appealing, that's fine, but license transfer and sales issues have nothing to do with the synth's quality. It's a personal preference, unrelated to musicality and more about individual character traits like wanting a good deal.

This is a site where deals are regularly part of the discussion--and deals are why some come here, at least in part. Duda took away allowing license transfers, without warning IIRC. Was he thinking of deals when he did that?

That makes me think you are a collector not a uaer. Having no ability to transfer the licence or a sale doesnt change the sound.

But when you have many synths that sound very similar and have similar functionality, factors like price and whether resale is an option make the difference. And as I said, there are also other factors: other synths with similar wavetable capabilities also have additional synthesis types, many more options, and in some cases far more presets designed for use with MPE controllers and better customizability of MPE curves for each parameter mapping.

What Serum has going for it is the "lots of famous artists have used/use it and it has zillions of third party presets available" (though few if any geared towards MPE afaik).

Then stop buying synths? be more selective about them?

For years I have "limited" my self to a few synths , plus the ones included in my DAW, and when feeling the urge to buy something just launch a couple and see I haven't explored them fully or they can do the same already, so why bother buying more?

Totally agree! I was sold all of my Arturia stuff.
I got Zebra and Diva which make my procces so powerful. Also purch Halion 7. And now I also start to use the stock plugins in Cubase...

Exceptional ROI, and supporting Steve is a duty for me.
