Looks like they've added Splice for the browser with tagging we've been requesting for 15 years. I'm gonna wait to reserve judgement, on how it actually works. I know that everytime I've ever bought an MPC they've tried pushing me that app, and I've disliked it. If this doesn't integrate with USER Content, it's going to be pointless. As I'm not looking to buy anymore samples. Just organize and tag my own.
Stem Separation looks useful. Key detection good, but is this with USER Content ?
Looks like they updated their beat maker thing, I wouldn't use, as I own an MPC,Maschine, but cool for those who don't own a drum pattern / sequencer. I'm assuming Scenes are those Ableton live / Bitwig workflows I'd never use, but cool for those who wanted it.
What else ?
As jamcat mentioned, you can hide all the stuff you don't want to see.

I like the look of the clips to be honest - having a scene playlist is nice.
I'd really like to have MIDI passed through to insertFX from instruments (as it doesn't seem to be in 6), and the ability to use midi generating VSTs as NoteFX. Also, open up the scripting to everyone and not just 'special' folks that maybe used to work for Presonus.
Finally, make the instrument patcher (where they have the splitter, etc.) be a bit more flexible similar to mulab, bidule and others. Heck, go the whole way and allow a device rack like bitwig (no, I don't expect that, but if we're wishing...).
Honestly, I think the annual updates with perpetual licenses, and the same price whenever you come back, is perfect. Bitwig demonstrates this, and whilst I sometimes leave a gap in upgrades, it's rare I've been without the latest for long. It's transparent and simple, and anyone complaining about the cost really hasn't looked outside at what everything costs these days... (and before anyone says FLStudio 'lifetime', they're great but they're always adding new devices which cost).
Out of all the software I buy (which is a lot), most DAWs are very reasonable, and that's for me who doesn't make any money from using them.
I'm looking forward to seeing what 7 brings.

I don't see a big level meter in the browser. I love that feature in Cubase and Reaper.
Joe was manually using one in a previous video so I had hoped it might be put in.

You actually can combine instruments in S1 on one track and even have key splitting. Each instrument have it's own effect rack with splitter. So I don't see big difference with Bitwig rack. Maybe not as ellegant.koalaboy wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:25 pm I like the look of the clips to be honest - having a scene playlist is nice.

As someone who owns, and uses both, Studio One is great but nowhere near as flexible/capable as Bitwig when it comes to the rack style handling (Similar to Ableton Live). It's just a different league.Stan Navi wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:40 pm You actually can combine instruments in S1 on one track and even have key splitting. I also have both and technically there is no difference, if you don't count additional midi tools in Bitwig.koalaboy wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:49 pmAs someone who owns, and uses both, Studio One is great but nowhere near as flexible/capable as Bitwig when it comes to the rack style handling (Similar to Ableton Live). Yes that's the one. I've done this a few times, but would prefer to select it with one click rather than having to add the plugin, resize it and then resize the DAW.jamcat wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:00 pmJ Veronica wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:37 pm I don't see a big level meter in the browser. Not a big deal though

They were able to for a very long time. However I think version 6 looks messy to my eyes. The rounded corners, the centered tools. Something about it still doesn't look quite right to me.Crossinger wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:18 amsame DNA, they couldn't denyandypryce wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:07 am Unfortunately with more features added without prioritizing the looks and simplicity, it started to turn into Cubase.![]()

Technically maybe, but in terms of using it, it's not a good experience imo. It's kind of almost there but I think if its interface were more like FLStudio's Patcher it would be a bit nicer to use. I avoid Splitter for the most part for anything other than the mixer. It's too clunky imo.Stan Navi wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 3:35 pmI also have both and technically there is no difference, if you don't count additional midi tools in Bitwig.koalaboy wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:49 pmAs someone who owns, and uses both, Studio One is great but nowhere near as flexible/capable as Bitwig when it comes to the rack style handling (Similar to Ableton Live). yeah just save it as the default preset for plugin.jamcat wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:39 pm Once you set it up, you can save it like that. You could probably set up a template with it like that too.

I can drag Scaler2 then a synth and then an audio effect that also takes midi for modulation, into the Bitwig track, and the routing 'just works'. I can't do the above in Studio one... (I can then do much more in Bitwig, in that respect, but that's more about the workflow).
I'm not a hater of Studio One - It's probably my main DAW alongside Bitwig, and things like Sound Variations etc. for more orchestral music are huge, but it has nowhere near the capabilities of routing devices on a track.
In the same way, if Bitwig had a well-supported alternative to Sound Variations, and more midi scriptability / processing for orchestral type music, I'd likely not need Studio One, but then that's not Bitwig's target market from what I can tell, which is fair.
Honestly, I'm happy using multiple DAWs for different things. I just wish Bitwig had use grid modules, Studio one had better device handling, and both had DAW scriptability open to users similar to reascript.
Like many, coming from the old days of computers, what we have now is already astonishingly good and so many options, so additions are always nice to haves, but never critical.

I also use both but I mainly use Studio one with Vst's since that is where it's strength is.koalaboy wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:33 am I can drag Scaler2 then a synth and then an audio effect that also takes midi for modulation, into the Bitwig track, and the routing 'just works'. I use Bitwig with my HW Synths since it has Automatic Delay compensation for audio that is Perfect and that I can use the HW editors for my hw that uses it inside of the HW instrument plugin so everything is on one track.
With studio one I have to manually set up Delay Compensation which is fine in theory but the Problem with studio one is that it adds alot of latency when you use it.
