BC Remote Control

How many BC Remote instances do make sense in a project? So, I mean, if I have 3 softsynth tracks in the DAW, is it better to load the plugin for each synth, or just one Remote instance and then load the corresponding synth presets (if available)?

It depends on what you want to do, and how easy it is for you to load presets and re-assign MIDI to the right tracks. I guess a single instance is easier to setup, but will have less flexibility regarding MIDI routing. If you do not have many synths to control, you could for example use a different MIDI channel for each, and switching Remote Control presets would instantly point to the right one thanks to the different channel.Astraois wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:51 am How many BC Remote instances do make sense in a project? Thx for the detailed answer. BCA Remote Control is a great tool and I love it so much.
Unfortunately, it looks like most MIDI-learn plug-ins can't handle more than 128 MIDI CCs. No matter which channel you send the CCs on, there is no difference whether you trigger (as an exsample) CC-23 on channel 5 or on channel 12. This means that no more than 128 assignments per plugin are possible. I was hoping that I could use several BCA 'Remote Control' instances on different MIDI Channels for a plug-in (softsynth)... I guess I was unlucky, but maybe there is a workaround, anyhow...

Well, if the soft synth listens to all MIDI channels at the same time for a single CC number, I don't see how you could increase the number of MIDI CCs available to control it

I'm not enough of an expert to find out whether it really is what it seems or not. Unfortunately I couldn't find any information on this topic. If you don't know about this exactly, who else does?

I guess you can find out by contacting each plug-in manufacturer. Maybe there is an option to use a different MIDI channel on each parameter like we have on all our plug-ins.Astraois wrote: Fri Sep 06, 2024 9:06 pm I'm not enough of an expert to find out whether it really is what it seems or not. I have now tested this with FL Studio, and lo and behold - the problem is probably due to the Cakewalk/Sonar DAW. In FL Studio I can control different parameters with CC20 and CC21 on channel 9 than on channel 10 without any problems. I can't tell anyone how much crap I've experienced with this DAW...

here is the proof
CC 20 and CC 21 on Channel 10 -- assign to OSC 1 and OSC 2
CC 20 and CC 21 on Channel 9 -- assign to OSC 3 and OSC 4
2 MIDI-CCs control 4 different PlugIn-Parameters - great job FL Studio and BC-Remote!!

Have you double checked the MIDI track routing in Cakewalk? If I remember well there was an option to route MIDI Omni (all channels) or a specific channel, which in this case converts all event into this channel or something like this...Astraois wrote: Mon Sep 09, 2024 6:26 pm I have now tested this with FL Studio, and lo and behold - the problem is probably due to the Cakewalk/Sonar DAW. Thanks for this advice. For sure, this is an issue, but I've tried everything for hours (my wife declares me crazy for spending so much time into it) Also Cakewalk forum is overwhelmed (not amused) with questions like this.
My attempt with BCA Remote in stand alone via Virtual MIDI cable didn't bear any fruit either. I tried setups with two or three different MIDI ports. (Now my head is spinning and I have to take a break...
After working so much with BCA Remote Control, I have a small suggestion for the plugin: if editing in "show control settings", it would be really practical if the green and red signals flash when in the MIDI learn state. It's all too easy to forget to turn them off while you find yourself at a "Dancing Knob party".
The role this MIDI setting plays in the entire setup is still a mystery to me

Maybe this post doesn't really fit in here in the forum, but it makes it clear where
the problems with DAWs lie and the many difficulties that stand in the way...

That's really odd. Does it happen with any other plug-in? It looks like the Remote plug-in picks up the MIDI messages fine, doesn't it?

As far as I know, does it happens to all PlugIns. I'm fighting this problem for years. From my view, BC Remote does a fantastic job and it gave me new power to try further, because I've almost gave up fumbling aound with MIDI learn concept. Remote Control should be more and could be so much more, than just triggering 12 Volumes and 12 Pan knobs/sliders... It seems FL Studio is far better with remote control
