Can Synthmaster 3 do DX7 Algorithms?

Yes. The DX7 algorithms have been added to the presets in SM3.

...and unless someone else does it first, I'm adapting the SY77/99 AFM algorithms for SM3 and will upload them to the online database shortly. One caveat, SM3 doesn't have the capability to do operator feedback from anywhere in the algorithm as the SY77/99 can, it has to be from/to a single operator.

I've copied the algorithms from the manual into SM3, but have been unable to check them against my SY77 as it's rather ill and long overdue for a service.

Some of the oscillator/modulator outputs may need to be zeroed if you want to start from scratch.

I've done the 8 TX81Z algos and am currently working through the 88 FM-X (Mod-X and FS1R) algorithms.

Will upload when ready and there won't be any zeroing mess this time!

Operators do do feedback, but in a limited way - they can only feedback to themselves; eg. Op2->Op2. The SY77/99 AFM allowed feedback across multiple Operators; eg. Op2->Op4

The plethora of waveforms available and additional processing in SM3 oscillators largely mitigates this limitation.

They do sound pretty much like you would expect FM to sound.

Hmmm.... I'll have to test this by importing to SM3 on my laptop, only got this on my main PC. Might be a problem with categories. Will get back to you. Not to be rude, but you did unzip the download before attempting importing? (just trying to cover all bases)

Right, bank file import issues - if you can't get the bank file to load via the Import dialog (or you can't get an Open File dialog for importing), try placing the file in you Synthmaster 3 Presets folder. That seems to work.

Thanks, I'll try that. I did unzip it first, but strangely enough when I went to import it as a bank SM3 requires a zip file so I used the original zipped file. I'll try copying it to the presets folder like you said.

That's a fair point, but the idea is to provide a starting point as it'll help those familiar with existing synths. Hence I'm working on putting together the whole range of FM/AFM/FM-X system algorithms - TX81Z, SY77/99, FS1R/MOD-X

RE: sysex import - you'd have to speak to the KV331 Audio guys.
