Hi,
Maybe it is not a new idea, but PatchWork Lite would be nice tool. Just plugin host with MIDI routing and stripped from all FXs. Would be also more affordable and potentially you could upgrade from Lite to Full version.

Thank you for the suggestion. The problem is that the maintenance/support cost is actually much higher for third party plug-ins hosting than for built-in plug-ins. So even if such a Lite version existed, it would not be much cheaper.
You can consider the extra built-in effects as pure "free" bonus (they have been added in V2.1 with no extra cost).
