SIR3 reverb plugin released

I find a bit annoying the fact that when you change a parameter in SIR3 it takes a bit to calculate the result. I have ~0 experience with convolution reverbs, other similar plugins do the same or it happens instantly?

I never encountered a convolution reverb that doesn’t do that. When you tweak a parameter related to the convolution engine, it needs to take some time to re-calculatee@rs wrote: Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:47 am I find a bit annoying the fact that when you change a parameter in SIR3 it takes a bit to calculate the result. ^Thanx, good to know that. Yet, I could've sworn I didn't see this noticeable lag in MConvolutionMB while I demoed it.

Not good. It’s only applicable for good sounding, proper electronic music. For EDM, stock reverb fattened up with some sausage is best

it's crucial that you can't dance to it...

On a more serious note, convolution reverbs are better suited to replicating real ambience and room/hall reverbs. They can also be used with whatever impulse you want, but they shine the most on the formerly mentioned applications. Therefore you may find that for electronic music algorithmic reverbs may sound better. Or not.

Anything that changes the convolution math is gonna take a full fft frame at least to catch up. I'm guessing this can be smoothed to whatever extent a programmer desires. I know many of the earlier convolution plugins to hit the market had dropouts etc when adjusting the IR length or volume envelope. That was probably to save a few couple cpu cycles.e@rs wrote: Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:47 am I find a bit annoying the fact that when you change a parameter in SIR3 it takes a bit to calculate the result. ^Got it; thank you, Ah_Dziz!
(And I just realized that I didn't play with SIR3 for quite a while...)

SIR3 doesn't replace the changes abruptly like early IR reverbs, but instead fades them in.
