Couldn't agree more. I have no idea how they're going to push out meaningful quarterly updates. Imagine being covered under the updates for support as they chase after a demographic that isn't you.

The thing is, if you can do on-off years, nothing really changes; it isn't like the updates are getting cranked out at breakneck speeds.

And tbf they've kind of already been working this way in practice if not in name: the updates already seem completely decoupled from the majors and semi-majors and they're now just codifying it.

And so it seems like they're looking to find new revenue streams by shifting the focus of development to target a different kind of customer as evidenced by their low entry cost, while doubling the price of staying completely "with it." It's very telling that they are selling a year of Plus for less than a new perpetual too.

So yeah, theoretically, we could just do on-off years, but for me this is just my cue to never update until either my program breaks or they drop a feature that feels made for me, which might take a while.

They're probably aware of this. This is a risk. Hope it works out.

That is precisely why I ditched Bitwig for Cubase in 2018. I looked at the product, then looked at the things I didn't really like about it and realised that it wasn't a product made for people who want to work the way I do and that it would likely never get the things done that I'd like to see done to it, so I ditched it.

Unless, like me, you have basic issues that, over time, do get attended to. e.g. When I first started using Studio One, trying to open a song on one computer, that you'd created on a different computer, was a nightmare. It wouldn't bring any of the instrument patches across and it wouldn't always find all the instruments, even if they were installed. Partly that was because it had issues with certain instruments, like Thorn and Adam Szabo's VSTi, where it wouldn't recognise them if they had a space in the DLL's name, so I had to be very careful when setting up a new PC to make sure I named everything exactly the same. But when I was setting up my Legion Go a few weeks ago, most of those issues seem to have been resolved. I still had a couple of problems here and there, but mostly it was smooth sailing.

Then there are all the crashing issues I have when trying to close songs. That's one that actually gets worse over time. So I still like to keep bang up to date in the hope that I will have fewer problems. Skipping an update will just feel like resigning myself to another year of regular crashes.
And tbf they've kind of already been working this way in practice if not in name: the updates already seem completely decoupled from the majors and semi-majors and they're now just codifying it.
Yeah, I thought the free update from 6.0 to 6.2 was way more meaningful and useful than the paid upgrade to 6.0.

Thanks for the video link. Bit weird to have a launch event before the launch event. Yeah I know this seemed to have been hosted by Tunecore rather than Presonus but it's clearly in collaboration with Presonus. It kind of confirms what we already know but I suppose I'm hoping that if I watch the new features of 7 enough times they'll magically change into something I find useful. A bit like watching a replay on a sports event and still hoping something different happens.

I totally get that if you're a heavy user of Splice, Tunecore, Atmos or you're using Studio One for live events then the new stuff in 7 (and 6) may be just what you're looking for. But I have no interest in any of those, I just want a DAW that's easy to use and works efficiently.

And to be fair Studio One is that. But, for me, there's been nothing since 5 ("co-incidentally" when Fender took over Presonus) which has made my life easier or better. I only upgraded to 6 because I wanted the bug fixes and assumed that they were also working on the core audio engine to make it better. But I waited until there was at least one feature (project templates) that I actually wanted.

I realise that Studio One covers a whole host of different users with different needs and you can't please everybody all the time. But I do feel that I'm in the majority and that I'm being ignored. What I want is for the existing functionality to work better, for the bugs to be fixed, for the audio engine to be made more efficient and to add usability to what Studio One already does.

But I'm hot holding my breath since Fender/Presonus appear more after headlines to attract new users than keeping their existing customers happy.

If there’s only one version of Studio One now, why do they need to call it “Pro”?

And if they’re moving to date-based versioning, why are they coming out with v7?

So the Splice integration, does this work with User samples? Meaning not stuff from Splice, but your own content ?

Still no announcement video with *confirmed* new features.

Yeah that’s pretty weird, maybe they’re waiting for the 9th to Officially announce everything, but being it was actually released 2 weeks ago on Reddit, it’s kind of pointless not to just drop the video.

Pirates had it 2-3 weeks early. Presonus chose not to pivot and bring up the launch, or even release some feature videos.

Paying customers get to pay double and wait around :clown:
