UAD still worth it?

I find in most cases UA's models to be far more authentic than the competition. So I guess it depends on your priorities.

Though I think Ultimate which for me arould be at $174, is a great price, but I haven't bought it..
It will give me tons of additional plugins that I am pretty sure I will never use.

If you don't already own all the in-house UAD DSP plugins, Ultimate 13 is a great deal because there are still about 20 plugins left that will likely be ported to native that you'll be getting for the price of a single plugin. Even if there are only a couple of them that you want, it's still a good investment in the future.

Not if I won't use them.. although I own over 74 uad plugins, there are only about 9 that I use often..
the api and neve preamp, the 1176's, the la 2a's, the 175/176, the atr 102, the softube Chander limited curve bender (which I have the native Softube version but haven't switched over fully yet) and the capital mastering compressor.. I rarely use any others and some I dont' think I have ever used. (I use to also use Voice of God).

They are about two of them that have caught my interest, but even those I am not sure if I would ever use...

9 out of 74 isn’t a great ratio but 9 plugins from a single company is probably more than most people these days.

Indeed.

I'm in the same boat with the Signature 2 bundle. It would only give me a few plugins that I want but it's a decent price at $199. Do I buy that now or wait for more native plugins to be included with Signature 3??

Post

If I knew Sig 2 was coming I'd have held off buying more singles. Buying UAD is so annoying.

I'm thinking we're about 12 months away from Sig 3 so I'll be making a point of not buying individual plugins until then. They may be moving towards an "NI/Arturia - new version every year or so" type of model.

Post

Plus, the roster of UA giveaway plugins keeps growing.

Fortunately I haven't bought any since the Signature bundle. I'm thinking of maybe holding off till the next one but I have to avoid buying any singles, even when they go on sale for $39.

In the same boat, bought Signature 1 for under $200 and added Custom '76 Helios + Manley Vari Mu (which was around $35 per plugin at a discounter site). I'm generally only interested in the plugins that work in Console 1. Missed the Ampex intro sale because it wasn't yet supported (now it is). I wouldn't mind the G Bus but don't need the 4000 E channel strip as I feel fine with Softube's. Will probably keep buying singles when there's a good deal or a bundle like Custom '76.

I might've considered the upgrade to Signature 2 if I hadn't already gotten the Helios/Manley. I might bite if that upgrade price is chopped in half one day. $199 is a fair upgrade price, but I'm just not that interested in most of the additions.

It's UAD's prerogative to release things like Top Line, but that's okay as long as it means I can eventually get deals on the stuff I actually want.

I'm in the same boat. Their catalog is no longer competitive across many categories. My upgrade cost to Ultimate is $199 but I am going to pass on it. If I was a Luna user the Ultimate does include 4 Luna extensions as part of the upgrade but I am using Cubase, Bitwig and VCV Rack now and don't have the brain cells available to grapple with another platform.

I have numerous UAD-2 cards split across two groups and have 70 to 80+ plugins depending on how you count them.

I want to buy UAD Signature 2. (Native version). What's your thoughts about UAD? I read so many different comments about US Connect and Ilok... for example soundtoys works perfectly for me. And does the better way to use the Ilok dongle for UAD? Any issues with UAD plugins? Thanks

If you are already fine with iLok dongle, then the native UADx is also fine (ignoring their terrible naming of the plugins so everything starts with UADx). The 'connect' app auto-starts with the OS, but that can be sorted, and the plugins work just like anything else.

If you have UAD hardware, it's annoying that there are two sets of plugins, and the DSP still helps a lot to mitigate heavy CPU usage of some of the plugins, and so I would say it's preferable if you have the hardware, but definitely not needed (unless a specific plugin is DSP only), and in fact if you're on Windows, the hardware is definitely a second-class citizen.

If you don't have anything at all already, it may be worth it, but I would check if you really need them before getting into the ecosystem - like many others, there's not much that makes them really 'special' unless you find something that calls to you uniquely.

Hey! Thanks for your comment! Well, at this moment I have polymax and verve and one preamp from UAD which was free. Honestly it's little strange for me that when I load them they are blurred and after some seconds it's looks ok. Seems that it's a license protection...
I don't have DSP from them...
Honestly you are right. I need to think what I need. Probably I need a good LA2A emulation. And maybe I am looking to Softube OPTO. Bus compressor also but it can be for example waves or cytomic. Or maybe Pro-c2 which I already have. Or maybe Presswerk from U-HE...
Pultec EQ are nice but in Cubase 13 I have now the emulation of this one...
Your thoughts about Softube BTW?
