I run mine from an external drive, it's SSD and connects via USB C

I installed it to that drive from the beginning
Thank you, enjoy your coverage and enthusiasm for Halion!

No problem, it's truly become my most used plugin. Having it and all the samples I use with it on an external drive is also really nice

I use it so much I am seriously thinking of building a new PC in early 2025 just for HALion7 in which case I would install it on the "C" drive with Windows itself. With AudioGridder it would be like its own unique hardware instrument on the network

I like that idea. I've been using a myriad of synths but not a workhorse that has many types of instruments like Absolute; and I went with Arturia first, and have been flip-flopping between Komplete, Halion, and Falcon for quite a long time now.

I have just a 1 TB external HDD so I am hoping that is enough.
Looking for forward to Halion.

Halion 7 and especially Absolute open up a whole new world of sculpting sounds.

My mistake was using the unison in the voice control module at the top instead of the unison option within the spectral engine. When I use global unison, it becomes monophonic, but with the spectral engine’s unison mode, I can play polyphonically. Hope that makes sense!
In the options menu of halion, under performance, you can set how many voices halion will play.
In the same tab, under performance meter, you can see how many voices your patch actually uses while playing.
If you use zone unison with a single synth oscillator, you can observe how adding unison voices does simply multiply the same zone, creating a new voice for each unison layer.
The multiosc and spectral unison etc. are doing something on the initial waveform, without creating entirely new voices.
Each layer allows for granular control over the voice priority etc. So that way you can manage what sound will always be audible and which zones can be stolen, for example.
It's pretty deep, it's halion :P

Edit: also keep an eye open on sustains. If you have long but inaudible sustain in your sound, it will still consume a voice. If you have unison on one of those silent thieves, it becomes a gang of thieves.

This is a great tip, thank you! I just tried it, undocked the window, and placed it right next to the main zone window :tu:

Sampleconstruct wrote: Sat Jul 13, 2024 7:39 pm Each sample is inside a sample oscillator inside a zone so there is no way to batch replace multisamples. If you select all zones inside a layer in tree view on the right of the interface you can batch edit oscillators though.
If all the multisample zones are in a layer, can you load/replace the whole layer?
To replace samples for multiple zones, without changing zone parameters, use the replace sample dialogue. It is well hidden though...
- select the zones or the layer containing those zones.
- right click > import export > replace samples
The dialogue is easy to use, if you updated the samples in an external process and kept the same name.
If you want to use samples with a different name though, you need to enter a pattern that matches the samples you want to import.
zone
-sample01.wav
-sample02.wav
-sample03.wav
-sample....wav

and you have a folder with
zample01.wav
zample02.wav
zample03.wav
zample....wav

You need to type the pattern zample* into the pattern field.
It is described in the manual, but this kind of inverse thinking has been wrecking my head. Once understood though, it is pretty cool.

EDIT: Nevermind.. figured it out! Typical, when you try for an hour and can't figure it out, once you ask for help, immediately figure it out.

Totally agree! I was purchased Absolute 6 in this year. And I need to say that it's an am tool. Honestly it was surprised me..great pack with a lot of great tools!

Halon is fantastic. Huge learning curve. I've done very little on the sound design front, but it fills in a lot of needs. It sounds superb. In fact just about everything in Absolute does, it's very high quality; especially the synths that utilize Halion. The brass and strings are fine and get the job done. Some nice world instrument ensembles and Tales is awesome. Pianos Eagle and Raven are great to me. Retrologue I was very surprised with how wonderful it sounds- even next to Diva; and not quite as analog but sounds incredible with brilliant GUI. Has modulation modifier to modulate the depth/modulation and the Resonance feature is good treat too. Arp/seq is succinct and easy modulation with it. Padshop comes with it and I like that, and really like Dark Planet.

What has come to be nice is actually having Halion if you need a sampler. When I tried to use Luna daw I came to find out I didn't have any other samplers, I just been using Reaper and using Samplomatic3000. Also didn't have a drum machine and then thought to use Groove Agent as I make my own with a slew of Samplomatic3000s...

Anybody know if Steinberg has a MIDI output function for the Flex Phrasor? I know it wasn't available through the LUA script in Halion 6 but has that been changed in Halion 7? It's a bit tricky to find all the relevant information about Halion scripting so I'm asking here before I go dig deeper.

Umm.. no, sorry that was not what I was asking (I should have been more clear). I was asking about real time MIDI output from Halion. Drag and drop I know how it works but that is NOT real time. Surely Halion should be able to do real time MIDI output as it's internally creating midi notes.

.. also I just noticed that Halion 7's media browser doesn't seem to be able to list file size anywhere. What a bummer and such a weird omission. Looking at a .wav file size is one of the quickest ways of estimating it's length. Very strange that it isn't available.

Guess I'm better off just using Finder on the mac instead.

.. and it is crashing now. 100% reproducible bug. But looking at their forum, I'm not even sure it's worth reporting (it just crashes when trying to rename a tab). Hmm.. not having all that good of a time with my first Steinberg product in a decade.

Like some hardware does ?
I think I read a couple of time from some dev, it isn't possible with vst3.
The midi data to drive another vsti, yes but not writing every note in a midi clip
