Hi,

AFAIK Bitwig still does not support MIDI 2.0, there is any idea when will it support it :?:

I should get soon an embodme ERAE II, which supports MIDI 2 and I am looking at current MIDI 2 controllers with MIDI 2 (there aren't yet many but some), at this point I probably will not buy any controller or gear without MIDI 2 as I like to future prof my purchases.

So I am really interested in seeing MIDI 2 support in Bitwig, both Linux (my OS of choice) and macOS fully support it, so there is already a big market of users.

Thanks.

Looks like microsoft has begun to look at this. I was genuinely surprised to see this.

Are there any DAWs that support MIDI 2.0 at the moment?

I wouldn't mind if Bitwig take point and became the first 8)

(but I think at least Cubase and Logic Pro supports it, although I am not sure)

Logic Pro supports it in principle but their implementation doesn’t work in practice

You mean like all other DAWs as well? :hihi:

But seriously: they are all waiting till Windows finishes the implementation which should be in early 2025 (inside builds to be expected soon).

If you are interested I just did a little video which sums up the current state of affairs (as well at what is to come for ARM):

First, thanks for the video, it is informative.

I really don't mind if Bitwig is first with MIDI 2.0 :D

Also being a Linux user (and for macOS too) it is sad that we need to wait for the slow Microsoft to work on it (hope they don't install a lot of spyware and bloatware on it too, like in the rest of the OS).

Anyway, I am almost ready to jump on the MIDI 2.0 train, as soon as Bitiwg adds it and my controller arrives.

I guess that is rather an easy thing to do for them since internally Bitwig is MIDI 2.0 ready for quite some time (e.g. CLAP supports MIDI 2.0).

Pretty cool to know that, thanks!
Maybe Bitwig will be the first after all...

Yea i would not worry about midi 2.0 coming to Bitwig!

Besides, in the meantime, ERAE II and other controllers run via Midi, too. So it's not like it's a 100% urgent thing haha. Actually, it's pretty astounding how few controllers actually really NEED Midi 2.0, it's a tiny tiny fraction of the market still. My guess is, that Midi 2.0 will be supported by Windows and Bitwig at a time in which most musicians still don't even own any Hardware which really needs Midi 2.0.
I built a Looper for Bitwig! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z5ywDo2bU0

Hopefully it will support soon.

Does Bitwig support MIDI 2 properly yet?

Erae 2 is MIDI 1.0. Erae Lab is MIDI 1.0. All DAWs are MIDI 1.0.

Erae will go MIDI 2 when it's time.

Unfortunately, the audio industry is completely sclerotic after 40 years of MIDI. Now that all is out, I don't know what we are waiting for? It took me just a few hours of Claude to implement a basic native MIDI 2.0 management system under Windows.
