Master level meter non functioning

Hi,
The MASTER LEVEL METER in my project stopped functioning. No audio from all the buses in the project seem to be "routed" into the master bus. The meter id dead, there is no green color in it.
I already checked if the output of the singular buses goes to "default audio output" and so they do but still no audio goes into the master bus.
In my master bus there are no plugins. I can't even hear the click if I put it on.
Do someone have any idea of what it might be? Thank you.

IS there actually output that just isn't registering in the meters, or is there no output AND the meters don't show anything? I seem to remember seeing that when switching output devices or default output device in settings.

This happens if there's some automation affecting it, like a fade out that somehow extends over the whole project. This happened to me once years ago. I never found the actual culprit, but copying into a new edit fixed it quickly for me.
