Automation, volume automation in particular, does not update on the fly. If I move an automation curve while the song is playing the change does not take effect until I stop and start playback. Is that expected behaviour?

Changing a point's value is reflected immediately.
Changing a point's curve is reflected immediately.
Changing a point's time is reflected immediately except if the playback is already playing towards that point. Maybe a future improvement.

Okay, maybe this is a bug then. It's the value I'm trying to move. If I move the volume automation points all the way down the slider starts to follow but slows right down. See below.

Technically it's not a bug, but i understand it may feel alike one as a user. Today the relevant code has been tweaked so that also in the case you described the automation envelope is played as up to date as possible. Will be available in the next M10.0.9.
