Even at compressed 24 bit 48 kHz audio. For what Omnisphere 2 can do it sure is worth the near $500 retail to me but it is in ways "lackluster" on my system.
... what? I understood exactly 0% of what your actual point was in the context of this discussion.

I'd like to see Omni 3 do some kind of rewrite and overhaul of the codebase to make the software less "heavy". Everything feels a bit slow, bloated and unstable for me. Like a codebase that has had too many layers of stuff glued to it too many times. Or copyprotection that is embedded in too much of the code. Just my 2c

Would love for Eric to steal the best part of Isotope Iris 2, now that it has become abandonware

Load a sample then have it appear as a spectragram along a time line. High frequencies on top, low frequencies on then bottom, the brighter it is, the louder it is, using Photoshop type selection tools, select the parts of the spectragram you like and ignore the others

Once you get what you like, then the fun can start, you take your selection and with the click of a mouse it's a Wavetable, or use resynthesis to turn it into a patch that then becomes editable to mangling into something else

I do this now starting off with Iris 2, and then loading into HALion7, would be wicked cool to have it in one place, especially with the giant library of sample content already inside of Omnisphere that Eric has been putting together for decades. Even those small short samples from the old Spectrasonics CDs from the 1990s would get new life

bmanic wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:22 pm I wish Omnisphere 3 gets more sophisticated synthesis options. Mainly an overhaul to modulation.. make every lfo and envelope switchable between monophonic and polyphonic. I'd also like to see a built in audio editor where we could edit loop points and types. And a polyphonic, per voice parametric EQ would be awesome! Still to this day the only synth that has this is Alchemy, without eating a full main filter slot!

A few creative sequencer modules would also be nice

.. and of course a few updates to the UI.
Definitely agree about the lfo's. All should be optional mono or poly. Aside from that mostly filter modelling improvements. Would not complain if they had custom wavetables with some kind of resynthesis option ala Halion/Alchemy/Harmor etc, but I don't see it going that way.

Most of the requests feel like dot updates to me. I'm not convinced there's a real need for an Omni 3. I'd rather see something totally new. And still that HUGE need for a Stylus replacement.

Yes to both of these, especially loop points. It's bizarre to me that this hasn't been included since the beginning.

I think the effects are quite good, but, i'd also like to see all fx parameters modulatable.

At the very least they should add more hardware models and presets like they said they would when they first introduced the Hardware Library.

zvenx wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 12:48 pm The whole point of it even called Omni-sphere, the whole point of it being used by many is that it is a little bit of so many things.
you want to have them break it up?
I do, in fact. The idea of a "desert island synth" is ... not particularly useful, IMO. :)

Also, I feel compelled to point out that I started by saying "I don't want them to make Omnisphere 3," avoiding the whole "omni" point.

Post

The moniker of "omni" always begs the question of why it then needs three other plugins to make it so.

I hope Omnisphere 3 will be released soonish.

This. It#s been my one constant complaint about Spectraonics gear - it sounds great but actually using it is like wading through treacle.
But it is what it is; they clearly cater to their high-end users so nothing's ever done.

The base code of Omnisphere 2 has been around for a while now. What used to require a pretty powerful PC thanks to Moore's Law now really doesn't

When Omnisphere 2 came out in 2015 what would be a pretty standard PC today was super high end. Especially RAM and SSD storage

Took time to load Omni2 on my machine and Ableton 12.1: 2 seconds to open. Then again I have very high-end (consumer) pc.

I think Omnisphere 2 is great as it is and The authorization system is the only thing i would like to see Changed.

It won't stay Authorized over time so one day it is fine and the next day i have to Authorize it again so i haven't bothered to Install it on my PC after i did a Clean OS Install because of it.

Agreed on performance, Omni 2 is very quick now on my PC (Ryzen 9, blazing fast nvme drive). Spectrasonics fixed a bug earlier this year that was causing sluggish performance on many Windows machines.
