I think Dexed has MPE.enCiphered wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 3:24 amVery nice indeed! I listened to the demos, and they sound great. There’s also MPE support, which is always a big plus. Do all the synths in the V-Collection support MPE?stoopicus wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 1:09 am Plus IMO the best reason to upgrade, they added a spot-on perfect Ensoniq SQ-80 emulation, the only one near this quality and functionality currently maintained AFAIK. It loads SQ-80 and ESQ-1 sysex perfectly.
edit: I just checked their website, these are the MPE-capable instruments:
Pigments
Augmented GRAND PIANO
Augmented STRINGS
Augmented VOICES
MS-20 V
CS-80 V4
Prophet-5 V
Prophet-VS V
Jun-6 V
Jup-8 V
OP-Xa
Vocoder V
Emulator V
CZ V
CMI V
SQ80 V
DX7 is not listed![]()

Maybe check with them re: a partial refund, because today I saw that the perpetual license is $149, and the annual sub is $49.N 4 LIFE wrote: Fri Nov 08, 2024 2:13 am Musio. at 199 for all that I had to try it out. So far so good. Great orch stuff.

DynAssist by NoiseWorks. It might save me a lot of time for vocal editing even though I know it's not the ultimate tool.

Well, the context was MPE, which by default stipulates per-note expression.IvyBirds wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:57 pmWhen I asked you what you wanted to do with MPE you saidhimalaya wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:32 pm
I'm afraid that is incorrect.
You can not do what MPE allows you to, with the DX7 engine 'as is'.
Again all of those things can be done as is with the DX7 enginehimalaya wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 12:21 pm Play beautifully expressive FM sounds.
Twist that operator and mangle the algorithm, slide the ratio, wiggle the op feedback…
You made no mention of wanting to do those per note
For a hardware synth to be an 'MPE' synth, it needs to have the right playing 'MPE' surface, and your Montage doesn't have one. It's not an MPE instrument.IvyBirds wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:57 pm I know what MPE is, and I know how it works with FM if you choose. In fact I have it in my Montage M, and in HALion7 inside if Cubase using FM-X, it available inside of F-em which I also own but don't use much in favor of FM-X inside of Yamaha/Steinberg products
Do you have a suitable MPE controller? I'm happy to talk about it, all the differences, etc, via a PM as not to derail this thread. Feel free to PM me.
FM is something I specialise in. Even 'standard' FM as seen in the DX7 offers enough to create very expressive MPE sounds.IvyBirds wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:57 pm My specific question was with regards to the DX7 engine.
The DX7 engine is actually a poor choice for MPE hence why I asked what you wanted to do with it, and your response was doing things the DX7 can already do
For MPE in FM, HALion7 and F-em are vastly superior options over DX7, the problem is that in the DX7, the modulation destinations that you would trigger with MPE are pretty blunt instruments and would be hard to play with finesse and expressiveness
For example you mentioned changing and tweaking algorithms, with FM-X and F-em you are not locked into predefined algorithms like in the DX7. You could create two different algos with different feedback parameters on different operators and switch back and forth between them as you play. This is made even more powerful by having 8 operators available to do this as opposed to 6
I created my first proper MPE sounds with a 3-op FM engine (Equator) many years ago, so a full blown FM engine (however archaic the original DX7 is) would be even nicer. Myself, I don't care either way, but it seems that there are users here who would love that DX7 plugin be MPE compatible.
(BTW, I have a Montage 8 sitting behind me...)

Nice. I might snap up Wavestate. Already have the Wavestation plugin, but if we are going to make waves, we need all them wavey synths.

Yep but just for pitch bending individual notes so you can play it like a fretless bass with Controllers that support that, it really has nothing to do with the DX7 engine itself

Does Arturia frequently update and enhance their instruments, or do they mostly focus on adding new ones?
Mini V4, Wurli V3

Does anyone know the total size of the V Collection? Is it larger than 1 gigabyte of disk space?

I'm watching and hoping Musiclab have some specials. I would love to pick up 3 of their guitars.enCiphered wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:45 am Any specific plugins, software, or gear you’ve been eyeing? Maybe some upgrades or bundles, you’re hoping will go on sale?
I'm keeping my eyes peeled, but if you have any tips on deals that are likely to pop up or some hidden gems worth grabbing, share them here.
What's really tempting for me is the upgrade price of $149.75 for the Anthology XII bundle, but it doesn’t include Blackhole Immersive!

Any instrument you own continues to get free updates for the life of that instrument. You do not need to upgrade your V Collection to get those updates.enCiphered wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 10:09 pm I have a question regarding Arturia V Collection. Where the V Collection comes in is for getting new instruments in bulk at an affordable price. Just be aware that, for example, Mini V4 is a new instrument, not a Mini V3 update. That's the only time you need to upgrade to get the latest version.
