Actually. Automation isn't unaffected, but it's different. There seem to be a point after a voice is triggered that the plugin stops automating that voice, and then when the voice is triggered next time, it realises automation has happened, and "slides" to the correct values at start of note. This seem to happen both when modulating one of the macro knobs, in turn modulating paarmeters, and when modulating the parameter directly. For instance, with a modulation of decay time like:
Image
I would expect the first hit to be long, and the next three to be short, and sound the same. However, hit 2 starts with a "zipper" sound, and is still longer than hits 3&4, even though the decay automation happens way before the second trigger. (And also doesn't seem to affect the first trigger, even though the voice is still sounding and the sudden change in decay ought to just cut the first trig short.)

First of all, thanx for a great, flexible, powerful and pretty unique drum synth! Been searching for a long long time for something like this, and I feel it (together with Fors Opal) is the closest software equivalent to the Elektron Machinedrum UW (in spirit, not in sound, but that's a good thing since I already have a MDUW!). It goes from traditional drums with dynamics and feel to waaaaaay out there in a way both sample based drum synths, or drum synths intending to do "analog drum machine from yesteryears" do not! Still learning, it's deep, but I really like it!

Another bug though, that I think might be a more subtle but difficult one. There seem to be problems regarding the update order of modulations relative the sound triggering. If modulating things with velocity for instance, with an env attack time of zero, it seems the velocity modulation will be one step off, actually affecting the next note, not the current one. I'm guessing this is due to wrong internal update order, that the sound gets triggered before the modulation for that trigger has done all of its updating of engine parameters. I have had this happen with other mods than velocity as well, so it's not just velocity. This seems to be the case both when played from the internal sequencer and from MIDI. Automation seem to be unaffected, at least as far as I can tell. I reported this to PA support (with screen recording and Live set example) quite some time ago, guess they did the PA thing and just binned the report.

There's a preset exposing the (simplest form of) the problem here:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/dpl9agyj ... zirca&dl=0
As that pattern is set up, it should be a 4/4 kick with the 1-3 long and the 2-4 very short due to velocity control of env decay/hold. But when I run it as VST3, in Live 12 on OSX, it plays back wrong, the velocity gets delayed one note trigger, so the 1-3 are short and the 2-4 long. See if you can reproduce. If you want other examples or live sets exposing this, just reply and I'll ad one.

Another minor bug. When copying a drum voice by dragging-dropping it onto another slot, all modulation routings seem to get lost.

So, there is a new version. but the sequencer still only has one pattern ?!?!? crazy.
this is the most basic feature in any drum machine and battallion still does not have it. (correct me if i am wrong please - i want to be)

now the sequencer can be started and stoped with a midi note. great. but this shoud be available since version 1.0.

some great features here, but they forgot about the most basic ones.

Another annoying thing - changing presets also resets routing, which is kind of stupid. I want the kick to go on the kick channel regardless of what preset I load.

Also, there is no way I can fine tune sample start, and which is more annoying - it seems to start from different points every time it kicks (from midi signal, not its own sequencer).

Looks like unfinished, rather than unfiltered

lame... they need to give up on that. personally i will wait forever if necessary,
i got plenty of drum machine plugins, and
a few actual drum machines as well.

Hilarious. Honestly it sounds like a mixed bag or like it needs some updates to hit the >= A tier. When I read it has similarities to Tremor, though, I went "hmm..." I really liked Tremor.

I believe that Plugin Alliance has a spy here and they know how many people are waiting for the price to go down to $29.99. As soon as the threshold percentage of people break down and buy it at the full price, they'll put it on sale.

Co-sign this.

The lack of multiple patterns really harms the usefulness of Battallion. And you can’t drag and drop midi from it.

So there’s no easy way to build up a sequence of patterns.

There's a $99 bundle available with Needlepoint - great combination for lo-fi / chillhop, etc.

If you forget about sequencing in the drum machine (due to the lack of pattern chaining), and just consider it a drum designer, I think it's quite awesome. I miss DrumSpillage for that (on PC now), and probably the closest cross-platform kit is SugarBytes DrumComputer, which is also great for experimental sounds, though it's a little quirkier and a little harder to dial in something specific.

Also, besides the synth engines, there are a lot of nice samples included.

(I think Xils StiX get's forgotten - it's a got a lot of great features, but I think it's a good example of a UI that would actually benefit from multiple pages.)

My complaint still with virtually every drum machine (except I think for Cherry's CR-78), is that the multi-out overrides the mixed output - i.e. it's you can't use it just as a parallel send for each track, while retaining the main mix (especially frustrating with DrumComputer, where IMHO you're a bit more dependent on the distortion and compressor to get punchier sounds). It's why I often go back to just using Ableton's Drum Racks, which allow proper sends on every track for external effects. Otherwise, you can't just put your weirdo delay on hats or giant reverb on the snare.

Still, I think it's a pretty awesome drum kit designer - maybe not at $199 but certainly at this price.
