grabauf wrote: Sun Nov 17, 2024 2:27 pm You can get Minimal Audio Current 2 for ~76$ at Audiodeluxe, if you put one of the UVI Falcon Expansions in the cart. There seems to be a glitch in the UVI 2 for 40% / 3 for 50% off system.
doesnt seem to work anymore
Then look at JRR. 88,11$ with code "forum".

Presets are 50% off at the moment as well, there are some really excellent sounds and being able to demo from within Current is actually really useful!

There are a bunch I almost like except for the reverb but IDK if it's worth the trouble of turning off the reverb to dial in something better (like Valhalla Room, Adaptiverb, etc.). Plus I'm not sure the special Minimal Audio FX and the sub oscillator thing really make the synth all that special. Not having per-voice effects is a major negative relative to Phase Plant and Synthmaster 3.

And apparently despite all those presets they have no presets designed to work with MPE Press and Slide, unlike other wavetable+granular+FM like Phase Plant and Pigments.

Anyone care to confirm whether the XY range of the dual XY pads is limited by the circle, so you can't have high X and Y values at the same time?

Dear users,

I wanted to inform you that I had a strong interest in purchasing Current. However, in light of what has been discussed in this thread, I decided to ask Minimal Audio if "Free updates" meant that updates would be free forever, as it is advertised that way, but the change on the website seemed strange to me.

Minimal Audio responded by saying that they could not guarantee that updates would be free in the future. This seems to me to be a questionable and unethical stance, as it is not what is offered to the user as a CONDITION OF SALE on their website.

I respect and will respect the vision of any company and their sales models, but not if it is based on not telling the truth during the sale.

Therefore, if the sales conditions did not align with what was stated on their website, my interest in this product (and others from their company) disappeared.

I am very sorry if the message is bothersome to anyone, but I believe that every potential buyer should be aware of this information.

For what it's worth..
Rift and Current are the Minimal products that have received a version 2, and as far as I'm aware both were free upgrades. For sure Current was. I can see why someone might not want to paint himself into a corner of having guaranteed free upgrades for eternity. But Minimal have, in spite of a botched subscription release that was quickly walked back, seemed pretty generous.

I've also seen them in threads discussing the year of free 'All Access' that comes with (I can't remember which) either Current or the plugin Bundle or something. And someone asked, what happens with the paid presets once you modify them and save, to which he said, at that point they're yours. This was followed by the inevitable "what if someone just slightly modifies ALL the paid presets before their all access runs out?" Minimal's response was that if they're gonna go to all the trouble to do that I guess they can have the presets.

^ This is a bit of a tangent but I think it's demonstrative of an attitude that they're not trying to trick you or nickel and dime everyone.

Plus I just think their plugins are great and people should give them a chance. They've been among my favorite synth and creative FX since getting them around this time last year.

I agree with Razzia. I don't think minimal is trying to nickle and dime (or hoodwink or whatever metaphor you want) anyone either - in spite of all the "yeah but what..." posts.

I just think they're not preoccupied with meticulously getting the precise wording to cover 100% of the "what if" cases that people seem to come up with.

Basically, my gut feeling is - they're not trying to screw anyone - so either buy it or don't. ;)

They are trying to offer a product under the same conditions as other competing companies, but openly communicating that they do not guarantee those conditions. This is unfair (to users and other companies with the same policy) and morally questionable.

The companies that offer free number-version upgrades are a pretty small minority. For companies that guarantee it in perpetuity I can only name Image Line off the top of my head (who take care of their FL Studio customers but actually screwed their VST plugin customers quite badly - ask me how I know).

As far as I'm concerned, "upgrades will probably be free for a long time, maybe forever if we feel like it" is a more generous policy than 99% of the companies I've supported, even if it's a bit uncertain

But hey, to each his own

It is not about being generous, but about not being deceptive in the sales conditions. No one says that charging for updates is bad or ungenerous. What is bad is saying that if you buy their product, you will not pay more, while knowing deep down that the sales information is just bait to get more sales and gain a privileged position over the competition.

... which they to date have never done or shown any indication of doing.
