I just figured out that I can get audition at academic pricing for $129, would this be a good buy? I know some people around here use it with T, what kind of things do you do with it?

Its actually really good. I used to use it as a multi-track recorder, but now that I have T, I use it as a wave editor. You know basic cleaning up waves and tweaking, time stretching, noise reduction, some limiting, cuting/trimming stuff, etc. Really pretty basic. Sometimes I use it when I need to put some video to music.

""Well I'm going to wait to T2 before deciding because it might have an editor built in (although that's probably just wishful thinking).""
Good call. If they can give Tracktion the Audition style editing im done with Audition. I find im using Tracktion more and more and Audition less and less, although I still love the super fast and easy wav editing in Audition. It's just the most superior PC wav editor. I like tracktion for everything else but being able to manipulate an entire track of audio with just a few mouse clicks and nothing else is great. I see why some people like the clip system in Tracktion, but I find it clumsy.

Audition will be better than any integrated wave editor in any sequencer package.
That's a good price for it actually. Try out the demo though and see what you think. I highly recommend the scientific filter to take out the terrible bottom end of wave files. Very smooth.

Don't hesitate. Absolutely the best audio editor I've used personally. The pitch correction and timestretching are excellent, as is the convolution. Amazing declicking/denoising filters, with the eerie ability to sense the difference between intentional and unintentional distortion.

for mix down? I could see using it for mastering but I like the way T mixes down. In fact, I find myself rendering tracks from things like ext to mix in Tracktion.rpc9943 wrote:well it seems that audition also is good at mixing and "mastering" stuff, i trust their engine more than tracktion for final mixes, no pun intended.

I agree with all the positive stuff about AA - it really is a superb program.
I use AA as a multitrack in preference to Tracktion if I am doing an audio only project, or for example adding vocals and mixing/mastering a Reason project.
I use Tracktion for pieces that need both MIDI and Audio, and think it is also a superb program. In Tracktion I have AA set up as the external wave editor.
I find if I am recording vocals etc with a microphone that I get background noise, hum, etc which can only be removed by using AA. Tracktion cannot do this, and I very much doubt that T2 will either (though I may be surprised
). None of the big sequencers can edit audio with the power of a specific wave editor like AA. Removing any unwnated noise and filtering out hum/hiss is a breeze in AA and an essential part of the audio recording process as far as I am concerned.
Audition as a multitrack also includes ACID style looping tools with outstanding time-stretch (noticeably far better that Live 4 which I also have and am quite disappointed with). So if you want to put together a loop based piece, it can be a really good first port-of-call.
Finally, AA 1.5. is great for putting music to video, and offers surround mixing. Again, there's no guessing whether T2 will have these features yet, so best wait and see.
My advice - definitely buy Audition, because whatever T2 offers in the way of the other features I have mentioned, AA is going to offer far better wave editing, and of that you can be sure

I was wondering about this myself. I don't think Tracktion has an option to use an external audio editor does it (??) so how do you work them together. Does Audition function as a rewire slave or something?AD80 wrote:Adobe Audition is the absolute greatest wave editor with the easiest interface, and most useful features, and it blows everything else I've used out of the water in speed and stability. Using Tracktion and AA together is AWSOME. I dont want to overhype it tho, judge for yourself.
