Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forum—and honestly, a while since I’ve been making music in general. Life’s been busy, and I’ve fallen a bit out of the loop on what’s hot in the DAW world.

Historically, I’ve been a long-time Cubase user, but over the past couple of years, I’ve been working in Logic, mostly for post-audio projects for video. I just noticed that Cubase 14 has landed and wanted to ask: is anyone here using it yet? If so, what do you think about it so far? Any standout features or improvements?

More broadly, I’m curious: what DAWs are you using these days? Are there any newcomers to the scene that are making waves, or is it still the usual suspects like Ableton, FL Studio, and Studio One?

Looking forward to hearing what you’re all working with and maybe finding some inspiration to dive back into making music again.

Cheers!
Chris

There is Bitwig now, a DAW that is also a modular synth: https://www.bitwig.com

This video is a little older, shows Bitwig in action:

Logic is my main DAW for the majority of my production work, but I also use Pro Tools for tracking/editing vocals and occasionally use Ableton to mix things up/collaborate. Wavelab handles my mastering.

As for new DAWs on the block, check out Bitwig. I'm not a user but it has a pretty big fan base around here.

Cubase Pro 14 for mixing
FL Studio for creating
Reaper is around, too, for automated processing and other weirdness

Cubase 13 Pro (on Windows 11)
Logic latest (on Mac Sequoia latest)
Live 12 Standard (on both)
Reaper (for testing and playing around with plugins, on both systems)

I mostly would choose either Cubase or Live as my main DAW on Windows.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

FL Studio and Logic on Mac.

older PC in the closet with Win7 on it if needed that has my Cubase, Ableton, Protools, Cakewalk Sonar.

2025 gunna upgrade Ableton live suite and get back into Ableton but not needed, just a GAS want.

Just using Polymer in the 8 track version I am getting some really good synth sounds. I'm seriously considering buying Bitwig just to use as a modular (Grid) synth. It's probably the best out there

What would really be great is if they made a CLAP version of Bitwig so I can use it within Reaper which is my preference for song arrangement.
Or imagine opening Bitwig within Abelron Live so you can use both simultaneously.
That would be a game over for me.

If you already know Cubase then stick with it. Cubase is ultra capable, and that will let you focus on the music.

I was in Logic about 8 years, then Ableton about 4 years and now from version 11 I am in Cubase. Cubase 13 right now and will be update soon to Cubase 14. For the film scoring it's the King for me...
