It is, nor will it be, anything wrong with vst2,4 when it comes to plugin users.
It is a developer thing.
Let's say you keep using VST2 and don't plan to change. Over time, developers will start to drop support for VST2 and stop putting out updates. Future versions will eventually be VST3 only, and/or CLAP (AU on Mac, sometimes AAX). Then you're stuck in a situation where you have lots of projects you have to slowly, and perhaps, painfully migrate to CLAP or VST3.

The sooner you do that, the better. But you can use VST2 for as long as possible if you so wish.

For me it‘s (in particularly order):

1. they need unnecessary space on the hard disc
2. they appear double in DAW‘s browser, so I mostly filter them to have not such a bloated result list
3. normally I use VST3 since a very long time, but kept VST2, because sometimes they were more reliable. I accidentally loaded VST2 in a project but later these plugins were updated by VST3-only versions (e.g. Kontakt). Now I have a lot of „missing plugins“ in the project, without the chance to load the VST3 equivalents with the same parameter settings

So the earlier I get rid of these double structure, the better for me.

I've been installing VST3 only on new plugins and slowly replacing VST2 in existing projects just so I don't run into any compatibility issues in the future. I still have both installed in many cases, but Reaper has that handy feature where you can choose which plugin types to show in the FX explorer if more than one are installed. Right now I have the order set to CLAP -> VST3 -> VST2.

Not sure I have any VST2 plugins left any more and certainly don't install them for new ones.

I got rid of them years (decades?) ago, when I moved to Mac.

AudioUnit all the way, never install the VST versions of anything...

"stop putting out updates"
If you're happy with your plugins. Why update? They don't have a best before date.
There are people that use daw and plugins with win xp. They seem happy about it.
.
Yes, i belong to the group that do not jump on all things that want you to update this and that.
Could be what makes my daw life, and IT life, so stable and problemfree.

FUKKK Orion, evidently!

I'm perfectly happy to use whatever works. I'm not especially interested in migrating plugins manually so I'm not interested in switching completely unless there's an automatic migration feature built in to a plugin. Steinberg kinda boned everyone with their licensing for developers.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

I’m almost done switching everything to VST3, have been for a couple of years now. Just one outstanding instrument, BFD 3, which has VST3 in testing for the BFD 3.5 upcoming update, hopefully soon.

Already ditched VST2 for VST3 years ago.

If your plugins are bug-free as far as you know and never get a new feature you want, never upgrade. Enjoy your life. Hope your PC never breaks down and requires an update. Be those Win XP people.

I only use my own RunBeerRun plugins as I feel they're the only ones done by human and are completed works not building blocks which require many many mediocre parts

i think only computers have ever used vst3, and me testing them out in savihost. not even male robots still alive use music software

If everything I have right now never got updated, I wouldn't lose a minutes sleep. I have way more than I ever need, and probably don't use half of it (but it's there if I need it)
