The difference is the pixel density--The density is double the density of a native 1080 within the same amount of space. It is much clearer and better looking when using software designed for it.Lesha wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 12:42 pm What is the difference between 4K 200% scaling and native 1080? I see there are a lot of people who are using scaling so I am trying to understand why would you buy an expensive 4K monitor instead of going for 1080?
What is your screen resolution in 2024?

It is also important for users to understand that the blurriness is not the fault of the high resolution monitors, but rather the fault of how the OS scales up the old software, not designed for modern systems. That's why I largely abandoned my old software and started fresh again. One good solution for those who want to continue using both, would be to use one of each--for example, your primary monitor could be a modern high resolution screen, and you could run a second screen with a 1080p resolution for your old plugins.EnGee wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 12:53 pmFor me, there are some advantages over the native 1080p. I use 4k resolution for most modern games out there, so this is the second advantage.
The downside though is that some old synths and instruments, like Reaktor and FM8, are not clear with Hidpi scaling, so they look blurry. So, if you use mainly old VSTi the 1080p is the best. Otherwise, most of the synths and instruments I use look great with any scaling![]()

Yes you are right in both the pixel density and the additional 1080p monitor (although, for me, I don't like to use more than one monitor).audiojunkie wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 9:04 pmIt is also important for users to understand that the blurriness is not the fault of the high resolution monitors, but rather the fault of how the OS scales up the old software, not designed for modern systems. I still use some old "blurry" software like Reaktor and other NI synths when on Windows or Mac OS. It's ok! I don't mind the ugly scaling if the sound quality is good, but on Linux, I use only native synths or drums and they are all hidpi friendly.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

27 - 2k - that's a good combination for me in 2024.

on my dual 27" setup I have 2560x1440, on my 32" setup I have 4K. I feel running with 4K on the 32" makes stuff a little tiny using the default configuration for everything.

I usually use 2k (or 1440p) scaled in 4K 32” monitor, but recently switched to 1080p because my eyes are not well these days, and this resolution is more comfortable to my eyes.
However, the 1080p is really annoying with my work as I open several documents and applications. It’s also not the ideal resolution for Cubase and/or Logic (I have the same monitor with the same resolution on both a PC and a Mac).
AB Live runs very well with 1080p though and both the PC and Mac became snapper and more responsive with this resolution than 2k resolution.
I tried 2 monitors setup and I hated it! One 32” 4K scaled is the optimal solution for me

Yep. I use a 30" 2560x1080 monitor as well. One thing that I've found is really useful as a second monitor is a small drawing tablet. It's 1080p, super lightweight, and small, sits to the right of my main monitor in a drawing tablet stand that adjusts easily. It's easy to tuck my webcam behind it as well. It provide enough extra space to move things that I need to see out of the way, also, for tuning presentations it helps to have that second monitor. I too hated multiple large monitors, but I find this gives about 70% of the value of a second monitor for only a tiny amount of desk real estate. If the text is too tiny, I can scale it independently of my main monitor. Also, to use it to view documents, I can quickly flip it to portrait mode. Every once in a while, I use it as a drawing tablet. For just over $100 on some sale for whatever reason plus another $30 for the excellent stand, it's a good solution for me.Lesha wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 8:39 pmI hear you. Actually, this is the best resolution! But at the time of purchasing I couldn't find what I want. I wanted a flat one (not curved) with IPS (not VA), very good to excellent quality display and with a reasonable price!
I think I found one but some negative reviews convinced me to avoid it! Then I had one LG (was 32", IPS but for gaming) and it was horrible! I couldn't believe that bad fonts! I returned it and took this excellent Dell U3223QE instead, which I'm very happy with (Music, work and gaming).

I'm using a special 'Nintendo Gameboy' Monitor here with a great screen resolution of 160x144 in 16:15 aspect.
It also supports a low screen resolution mode with an even more fantastic screen resolution of 2x2 pixels
Cmon, don't tell me you can top that?
