Not me... I almost always have multiple projects open. Even when I'm working on one project, I keep a second project open as a scratch pad and storage._leras wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:38 am For sure 95% of the time we're mainly going to be working on one project.
But that small part where it does help to have two projects open it's pretty useful. You don't need to keep reloading to switch. (The audio engine does take a few seconds to reload vsts etc, but it's very quick really).
What DAWs Are You Using Nowadays?

And yet you still won't react, or even just acknowledge, that Reaper doesn't have a native arrangement system. And no, moving sections around isn't on par with what most other DAWs (including Reason) have in this regard.VOODOO U wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:02 pm Your initial point was that you moved to a different DAW due to workflow preferences. Based on your DAW of choice having a workflow you prefer, you stated it is a "composer oriented DAW" assuming the other is not. I disagree with this.
You clearly weren't around 15 years ago, when SWS-extensions didn't even exist yet. The fact that you can (now) extend Reaper with stuff like that is definitely a strength, but it also highlights Reaper's biggest shortcomings, as you do need these things to get it on par with other DAWs for certain functionalities.VOODOO U wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:02 pm You were constantly trying to get Reaper setup to your own personal workflow preferences and you're saying that has nothing to do with you and your own preferences?
I setup a workflow with Reaper once. I spent a couple of days playing around with it until I got a workflow setup up to my preferences. You didn't. That's all you buddy.
At least for arranging, absolutely.VOODOO U wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:02 pm Are you telling me Reason's features for sequencing, mixing and song arrangement is equal or better to that of say, Reaper's?
Are you aware that Reason has lots of stuff implemented that is NOT in Reaper? Like native pitch-editing for example. Don't point to that crappy JS-script that comes with Reaper for that, it is a complete joke in comparison.VOODOO U wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:02 pm Forget about workflow. I am speaking about what is implemented within Reason vs. IE Reaper.
You really like to celebrate your ignoranceVOODOO U wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:02 pm Reason has no demo. One has to pay to use the program at all
You don't have to pay a penny to download Reason, install it, and run it in demo-mode. Is this really so hard to understand?
That sums you up nicely. I'm done with youVOODOO U wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:02 pm I don't give a f**k if you're bob moog rick wakeman and the God behind oscillation.
My ears and my taste are all that matters. Reason sounds flat versus others and that is my one man opinion.

Sorry, I didn't mean to stoke the flames.
I think as long as we are comfortable with the tool and feel like it is doing it's job for the way we want to work, then all is good.
I am really wanting to setup my studio again and play around with all the latest versions of these DAWs.

Not your fault. Unfortunately, there are people who want to oppose objective truths
In case you wish to try out the latest Reason version FREE OF CHARGE, you can download it on the Reason Studios website here: https://www.reasonstudios.com/download/reason1303/Chris Hawkins wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:26 pm I am really wanting to setup my studio again and play around with all the latest versions of these DAWs.
This is the full installation, that runs in demo mode without a license. If you get a license you don't have to reinstall, it will simply authorize with your acount creds

I came from decades of Cakewalk/Sonar. I really like it but the new rental only terms aren’t worth it. I moved to Reaper and I’m quite happy.
I know there are criticisms of the Reaper MIDI editor but I realized my frustrations were because I kept trying to think in terms of Sonar actions. Once I sat down and learned it, it’s very functional.

I'm a Bitwig evangelist but I just said some positive things about Fruity Loops.
Anyway for me Bitwig has been amazing, and everytime I use another DAW it feels clunky AF.
Fwiw by hours used my used daw list would be:
Cubase
Bitwig
Ableton
Logic
With small stints in
Reaper
Reason
Fruity Loops
It's clearly possible to make music in any of these.
However, once I found peace with Bitwigs grouping, routing, in group FX sends, and general FX strip, I was able to drop my pretty structured Cubase grouped mix template approach. It's a different workflow in Bitwig, you can just add channels and use ctrl+g to add a group, so you can build grouping for a mix very organically, it's super powerful and super flexible. This is the main workflow that sells it for me, though, it of course has many other nice things.
The only other audio software this nice to work with is Wavelab, which is of course targeted at a different process, much more mastering and audio editing - but this is also super slick for working with once you are up to speed.

What flames? It's just another survey/list thread.Chris Hawkins wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:26 pm Sorry, I didn't mean to stoke the flames.

No one has used all the DAWs, so it's hard for anyone to really know if X is better than y. Occasionally people will write about the why of using a DAW that can be interesting and helpful.
All DAWs are pretty well featured these days and all can be used to make great music, even though they can have quite different workflows. Not even that easy to trial them as what a DAW seems like at 2hrs use is different than 10hrs use, and different again at 50hrs use, also how well people have leaned shortcuts etc, and what's best at 50+ hrs use what we're really after, but who can try all DAWs for 50+ hrs...? No one.
Do trial Bitwig though. Check out grouping, adding a local FX send inside a group, creating FX chains, saving and loading a grouped set of FX as a preset, and using modulators to tweak a control - and you'll get a good idea of why it's nice to work with.

FL Studio. Life time free updates, the best piano roll in any DAW, themes at last, and it works perfectly for me.

Seriously, I used BW for few years…
5.2 has a good vibe now but I’m having some fun with FL lately.
