If you are aware of a new beta, you should also know if there are any improvements.

I've held off so far from updating to R13, mainly because they removed the device favorites, but I'm going to grab the BF sale now
No I just got the email to say there was a beta but don't have the details

Thank you for having asked (about three weeks ago). I was also hoping for such a summary, and have been skimming through this thread, starting from the R13 release date of June 18th (page 31 of the thread or &start=450 in the URL), to get a better idea about what had been removed.

So far it looks like the main thing that was removed was the "favorites" feature in the browser (which was also turned into a pop-up window), but I'm only on page 57 of this thread so far. I gather that would have been a big deal for everyone who had gone to the time and trouble to categorize their favorites in previous versions (I myself had not).

But it would still be nice to see a summary of what features or functions have been removed.

EDIT: After having survived a skim to the end of the thread so far, the only other item I saw mentioned as a feature removed was the ability for Soundfonts to work in the browser (meaning audio preview? I don't know). And a search for "removed" in this thread has some results about "removed features/functionality" without any obvious specifics.

Nice to see your name in the forums again! (Or maybe I have been checking the wrong forums or threads.)

If that was your main rationale for holding off on the upgrade (as a much more experienced Reason user), then I think it would be okay for me to upgrade from R10 to R13 -- I would finally get the rack plugin as well as Europa and Grain, so not a bad deal for me, even if the end is nigh. I was hoping for a $99 upgrade price for BF, but I guess $119 isn't so bad.

Jac459 wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2024 12:21 am Continuing on my point, I believe, private equities have done for this release what they do best which is chronically under-investing.

The problem of release 13 is not the quality of the release. It is ok to prioritize the DAW. It is ok to add a few extensions.

The problem is the quantity. At a turning point moment of reason history, where people starts to doubt. They propose 1 new synth... A VA on top of that. Certainly not the most complex and innovative synth to do considering the massive trend on VA of the 2010s.

Remember the v11 there was Europa AND grain, 2 ground breaking instruments.
Europa introducing a unique flavour of wavetable vs spectral synthesis and grains which remains for me one of the best granular instrument of the market (and yes, I have novum, PP, SM3...).
While Europa and Grain are great devices, I think that release was the beginning of the "newer Era" of Reason. That was still a highly controversial update. Many users were highly upset that virtually no workflow improvements were delivered and those devices might have been the beginning of some bad decisions to their RE platform or at least in the perspective of a healthy 3rd party developer base. Europa and Grain were clear preparation for their next update (developing a Rack Plugin). In itself the Rack Plugin is a pretty innovative idea and opens up Reason and REs to VST users. But still no workflow improvements in two update cycles are really pissing off users. And that release was one of the skimpiest updates I remembered for any DAW. I don't remember if this is were they introduced Reason + but if it was, it was also a time were it looked like they were actively intentionally trying to hurt their 3rd party RE developers. I even saw a few innovative 3rd party developers call it quits at that time and I never understood the purpose of that move. If it was the capital investors idea, it was very stupid as I doubt that update made much short term Revenue and they Murdered alot of their long term 3rd party Re sales which I guess probably isn't that big to begin with but more 3rd party developers is more revenue, more interesting 3rd party products = more Reason users in the long term.
I think you're correct that the writing has been on the wall since they destroyed what was once a relatively healthy RE marketplace with a lot of major brand participation (korg, softube, reveal, u-he, etc) with the same trademark arrogance and indifference to the interests of their partners and customers that has also alienated most of the user base. All of those major brand participants stopped making REs years ago and some of them like u-he and softube asked to have their products pulled from the RE store. Getting multiple big corporate brands to give up what was entirely passive income for them at that point just to avoid being associated with your ecosystem that they were actively developing for a couple years earlier is quite spectacular mismanagement. Many of the best small and solo developers that are still developing REs have been on record for several years now about their dissatisfaction with the very developer hostile mismanagement of the RE marketplace. From talented solo devs to major corporate brands, from power users who have thousands of dollars invested in REs to brand new users who just want a feature even the free DAWs have all had since 2007, these guys have managed to consistently piss off literally everyone they interact with for over a decade.
Thank you for this information.

It is $106.27 if you buy the upgrade from Jrrshop and use the Discount Code Forum on check out ;)

It's a bit more complex. The new browser does have favorites, but the browser is for sounds, not for instruments/fx. The 'old' browser (left sidebar) is now only for devices, and that lost the favorites option. As many users (like me) used the favorites to categorize their Rack Extensions (I have close to 500), that resulted in an unworkable situation for many.

No other functionalities were 'removed', but certain things didn't work anymore as expected. This was mainly due to the initial release of R13 being seriously beta-level with many bugs. However, they have since repaired numerous issues, and the return of the device favorites (actually, a better tagging system) is coming soon. That's why I'm getting this BF-sale, but I'm not going to install until the next stable release is out (which should be soon-ish).

I tend to be very active in the user-community of the DAW Im currently using. So I kinda left KVR years ago (but did lurk now and then) when I moved to Reaper and its forum. After switching to Reason, I spent a few years on the ReasonTalk forum, but I left that recently, after getting gaslighted by a few mods over there (a seriously crazy situation), so now I'm back here.

So you are running the latest beta now

Just to give a heads-up, I just bought the R13 upgrade in the Reason shop for 199 euros. I found that this purchase dropped 20 reward points in my account, effectively returning 20 euros to me for other purchases and making the upgrade actually 99 euros :D

I seem to remember that you get reward-points only when purchasing in the Reason shop (the rewards page states something to that effect), so when purchasing through other channels (like RRshop) with a discount code might actually be more expensive.

They have a very limited selection of what you can buy with your Reward coins so if you are covered with all the RE Plugins you want or the ones you want are not in that list your Reward Coins are pretty much useless.

It is also not possible to use the Reward Coins to upgrade Reason.
