I have a vague recollection of a groupbuy way back that made enough money to retire on. If not in luxury, in comfort.

BTW wasn't the first Sylenth made in SynthEdit ?

Yes, here are some of them:

Thanks the Apox one is good - don't like the others but at least there is one

What is it people like about this plugin though? I can't recall thinking it was anything more than fairly ordinary many years ago when I tried it on a totally different system but clearly there is something about it so maybe I should give it another chance?

It just has a really good sound quality. The reverb though should be removed from existence, it is awful.
If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding. HOW CAN YOU HAVE ANY PUDDING IF YOU DON'T EAT YER MEAT!?

I'm not sure where this was quoted from, since the link in the thread below doesnt point to that anymore, but I remember reading about this somewhere else:

"Although SynthEdit was used in version 1, it was only used to create the user-interface and not the audio processing engine. Sylenth1 version 2 however is completely written in C++ and assembler code and has vastly improved stability and compatibility with all VST hosts."

Yeah the Apox is probably my favorite.
Here's one of the others I like:

  • It's great on CPU. I remember replacing some other CPU heavy synths with Sylenth just to continue working on the project.
  • Very easy to learn. It sits well in a mix with minimal effort.
I have a Sci-fi theme for Sylenth on my website. Not for faint hearted

Elara

Not sure why he never made any other synth but I appreciate that he maintains it and provides free updates.

It was all coded. Synthedit was just used for some skin UI elements. I also recall (But not sure if correct) that he lost the code because of some reason like computer failure. I think the nail in the coffin was when some big magazine did an interview with Avicii, and there was a very obviously cracked version of Sylenth on his computer screen. He later explained that he used that one because you could reskin the boinked one even though he had bought a license.

Hey at least there were some recent updates and a modern resizable interface.
Unlike another great sounding synth from that era >> Audjoo Helix :scared:

I still have nostalgia for its GUI. I do miss the good ol' days of digital configuration/preset menus with bitmapped fonts flanked by a tacky "analog" design.
It outperformed many other synths of its time with its alias suppression, it's still better than many modern synths releasing in that regard, though there's a lot more amateur projects out now.
There's 2 paths forwards: give into modern trends and end up creating a synth similar to everything else, or stick to its roots, refine the sound further and see what modern features can fit snugly into the original's workflow. I think the latter would be a better choice, if any is to be made.

It was a leap in sound quality. The UI if I remember was right around the time the 'fake wood' look was leaking into audio UIs. Almost every Moog emu had it. I remember being so excited when it came to Synthedit.

I remember at a certain point Lennard was responding to preset requests from certain songs, which I thought was really cool. :)

He included those presets in future updates of the synth.
