Since BF is steeped in the history of American greed, perhaps U-he should do it proper and raise the price of products 25 percent ahead of the sale and then cut them 20 percent for Black Friday.

Urs actually described it very comprehensibly. And the thing with the payment processor (ShareIt) and therefore no payment of sales for several months etc. - the situation is different there.

So you can just be happy that there is a discount at all... better than none.

And just because other manufacturers seem to hold Black Friday all year round (permanently have individual plugins or bundles on sale somewhere with 80-90% off) doesn't mean that others have to. This unfortunately has a negative effect on the user's perception of value. Everyone should be able to decide for themselves what their work/products are worth...

E.g. Valhalla-Sean doesn't have any sales at all.

That is the first I have heard about that scandal.

I've bought loads of products through Digital River MyCommerce, so this is quite shocking to me.
Digital River has not paid numerous merchants since midsummer for software and digital products they sold through its MyCommerce platform.
I just checked at it seems the last product I bought through them was in early May this year, so hopefully, that developer got paid.

How can they get away with this? It seems like a scam, if not outright fraud on their part? Knowingly taking customers money in exchange for software licences, they never intended on paying to the developers?

I hope their CEO, who that quoted article suggests may be behind this, doesn't get away with it.

Hopefully, there aren't any negative repercussions for customers who paid for software through this vendor? Are they even still in operation, or have they now been completely shut down?

There's a vast thread going on in the developer forum. It's tragic, it's real and it's very devastating for many of our friends and fellow devs.

I can't really comment much due to our ongoing lawsuit. As for people who bought licenses from our store in the time from July to mid September, we treat them as normal licenses no matter what. Our beef is with Digital River. We hope we can eventually secure some or all of the money owed to us, as it's almost a fifth of our annual revenue from our store.

It was (and is) a shitty situation, but luckily our strategy of stashing cash to overcome a stretch of maintenance work has helped us with this situation, too.

We're in good spirits though, we're very happy with the things we're working on.

So here's this thread:

viewtopic.php?t=612462

It starts out as something else, then - at the bottom of page 1 - come the first red flags (moving payment from 15 days to 60 days), then after a few pages comes the realisation that they won't pay at all, then come pages of pages of people from all sorts of areas signing up to join the conversation and trying to cope. I can't follow it anymore, I had to tune out. Incomprehensible.

Post

I've watched that thread in the developer forum from time to time, to see how things have developed, and it is truly disheartening, as I followed the links/updates. I'm glad you had precautions in effect, and are robust enough to ride it out. I feel so bad for all involved, as it is just so tragic. Wishing you all the best.

Not sure why you’re quoting me. It was sarcasm about the mostly myth of Black Friday sales.

Personally, I don’t have a need for a sale on u-he plugins. I have all the synths, most of them since release, going back to zebra (not purchased on release). I have quite a few of the effects as well and have purchased most of the sound packs… paid for, including the ones people got free when zebra legacy was released.

You see, I don’t mind supporting developers that put out a great product and have great support. So, I don’t need to feel lucky about a sale. I do feel lucky that great plugin companies are out there treating customers well.

PS, I also support Sean.

Sorry, I missed the sarcasm. It wasn't meant to be negative towards you.

More like, in general, the thing with many developers on the market act all year round as if it were Black Friday, which makes a lot of things worse.

Sorry to hear about the Digital River scandal. This is the first I've heard of it.
Here's to hoping you eventually get that money back. It sounds like they've been criminally mis- managed.

Dang.

My only u-he instrument is Hive 2 - was hoping to add Bazille and Repro and some packs.

Still picking up sugar & spice for Hive, but dang.

I grabbed Objects myself for "maintenance" too. When I'm ready for some more Eurorack, I might get myself a Wiretap module too :)

Not to encourage money coming out of the U-he coffers, especially with the Digital River issues, but I also understand and sympathize with people being on a budget, so my advice is to keep an eye out for secondhand licenses if the price is truly a barrier.

There were a few big U-he sales in the last few years and I'm glad I was able to take part in some of them, but I don't regret a dime spent at U-he at full price either.
