You can't go wrong with a Tokai, I've had a MIJ Strat for over thirty years.thecontrolcentre wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 11:50 pm Awesome guitars for not much money ...![]()
Reminded me of the pink, Paisley Tokai (Breezysound) Telecaster I sold in the late 90's.
What guitar gear have you bought/are you buying/will you buy?

And the Pink Paisley (Japanese) Squier Tele I showed my mum as was promised a guitar for passing all my exams one year and yet I ended up taking home a particularly horrible, but half the price, Vox White Shadow instead.

Almost the same. Picked mine up at a shop in Denmark Street around 1996 but it was used and seems to trace back to the mid/late 80s as it’s a HSS which came with a Kramer trem and locking nut. Binned the locking nut off almost immediately as it was annoyingly fiddly and amazingly the guitar works fine without it.The Noodlist wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 12:20 amYou can't go wrong with a Tokai, I've had a MIJ Strat for over thirty years.thecontrolcentre wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 11:50 pm Awesome guitars for not much money ...![]()

Local shop did a good job setting up my new Aerodyne tele so I’m putting the Tokai in for a long overdue tidy up, the pots and pickup selector switch work but are scratchy. Think the frets need TLC I can’t give them too.

Ah, they are still making them. I have an original Chandler one that I bought late 80s. It doesn't have the bias knob these newer ones seem to have. Only the rack models had it back then, with couple more pots too.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Dec 11, 2024 2:34 pm I had been thinking about a 5 knob Tube Driver for a while, so I figured I’d go for it while he’s still making them.

The Bias is a set and forget knob for me. Yours is probably biased optimally already.

Yea, I guess ideally it would've been biased to the tube it had back then. The original 12AX7 went microphonic at some point. But just when it was starting to go, it had the most gorgeous sound and behaviour I ever got out of it. Right on the verge of runaway feedback, but still controllable and sensible to picking dynamics.

I'm looking for used vintage 80s to early 2000s japanese guitars, mainly Ibanez, Aria and Yamaha of the superstrat type. Can anyone recommend any dealerships who has these kinds of guitars or can aquire them? Not too pricey as I'm going to use them for restoring and modding, with the exception of any high end Yamaha RGX1220 which I have been looking for for a while. I'm located in Norway, so postage might be an issue regarding dealerships in the US. Japan is fine, it's just hard to navigate the market when you don't read japanese

Rakuten or Buyee is the way to do it but, yeah, quite difficult. I’ve never actually won anything there, people always outbid me. Many Japanese dealers sell on eBay and you can get lucky if you’re patient. Create some saved searches for “Parts or not working”.

btw, this is right in my wheelhouse. I've owned more Japanese guitars than I can count and an Aria superstrat was my first electric. The best superstrat I've ever owned was an Ibanez Prestige, even better than Suhr and Tom Anderson.

Treated myself to a Squire Paranormal Jazzmaster 12-String for my birthday last month
. Sounds lovely (once you get it in tune).
I've wanted a 12-string forever ...
I have "enough" guitars now (unless I spot a cheap Firebird mebbe).
