Can you record audio and midi into a launcher cell?

I do not want to launch a pre made third part clip. I do not wish to launch a section of audio that I previously recorded. I want to record directly into a cell. Can version 7 do this in just the same way as Live, Bitwig, Logic etc do? Or is it purely a launcher for pre made clips? I read on another forum that it is not able to actually record into a cell directly. Is this correct? Thanks.

Yes, you can directly record into a clip. But the clip-based recording of i.e. Live or Bitwig is more advanced. For example, you cannot define a clip length before recording. So loop-/cycle-based recording is not possible.

I think it's time to get off this train, Presonus have become more and more stingy with their upgrade prices for existing customers, now you can actually buy the full version as a cross grade for pretty much the same price that existing users can upgrade which is insulting to people have have put good money into this programme for years. The upgrade isn't that interesting anyway, they haven't really had an interesting update for a good long while tbh.

I had similar thoughts, so much for loyalty.

Yes, you can directly record into a clip. But the clip-based recording of i.e. Live or Bitwig is more advanced. For example, you cannot define a clip length before recording. So loop-/cycle-based recording is not possible.

I've bought every single version so far but I've also skipped the latest update. Maybe it's time to show Presonus that it's time to accommodate loyal customers. There are even videos that mention this, and rightly so.

I hesitated on v6 but eventually upgraded when they added something I found useful. Will probably do the same on v7. No reason to upgrade at the moment - there's literally nothing in v7 that makes my life any better.

The only reason I bought 7 is because of the Best Service sale, and because it’s not like I’m going to switch DAWs so I might as well condition myself to the new Arranger look, and that may take a while.

So far I’ve only found something I hate even more than the rounded corners: the thick white outline around selected parts.

It’s like the UI update was designed for the blind.

jamcat, I was/am tempted by the Best Service sale and as you suggested just tuck it away until Presonus come up with a feature on on Presonus that's worth upgrading for. But I'm slightly wary that there's something in the serial number which gives away what version (or sub version) it's related to. I know it seems unlikely but the whole "year of upgrades" thing seems a little bit sketchy at the moment and generally speaking software rarely goes up in price even if it does mean being a bit patient.

19/Nov/2018 was my last paid update for Studio One 4.0 and had free updates till 4.6 which I've stuck on.

Wow, I really can't remember what was introduced when but I've just done a quick search from the v5 release and the one standout feature that I just could not live without is the listen bus. This comes after the master bus and you can put whatever monitoring plugins you want on it (eq correction curves, mid/side only monitoring, fake limiting/mastering, referencing like metric A/B) but when you mix something down or bounce it out then it ignores it totally.

I'm sure there are plenty of other as v5.x was very worthwhile but this one jumped out at me.

Oh, and possibly clip gain for each event which I think may have come at v5.

I'm also still on 4.6 ( or is 4.7 ) and recently demoed version 6
All I can say is that there are numerous improvements compared to 4.6
Stupid of me for not upgrading earlier and now it's impossible to get V6

As long as the product meets your requirements and expectations, you can overlook the lack of customer respect. Perhaps this general expectation on the part of loyal customers is also completely overrated.

What constitutes a loyal customer? Maybe some of these users aren't so "loyal". Did you upgrade every opportunity? If you didn't, maybe you're not loyal. And if you paid more for an older version than what the price is now, why complain? Didn't you get to use it the time you owned it? Was that not worth it? You paid $400 and now it's $200. So you "lost" $200, is that how you look at it? Is that a lot to lose out on? Can you be happy that someone new has a cheaper price? Seems like complaining about the new model (subscription) but yet upset it's cheaper for others at the same time is gratuitous. And to think that someone who has upgraded is so inclined to sulk about a change they don't like so much is baffling to me. Or "this new update is trash", even though it probably helped out a ton of people...
