How old is old AF? I will be 60 in less than one year.
I am a grandfather and in my late 50s :) I remember when all the "Vintage" Synths were new
Same for the "vintage" synths (kids but no grandkids - none of them wants kids - don't blame them). I remember seeing a Minimoog, Arp Odyssey, and Polymoog all in a row at House of Guitars in Rochester, NY (not sure if they were new or used). There was a guy on my street who owned a Minimoog and a 4-Track reel-to-reel, and we went over to his house to record stuff (guitar for me). One of my brothers had a Yamaha CS-15 for a while; bought new with some help from my dad.
I begged my dad for a DX7 which was not affordable for us but he got me a Casio CZ1000 for Christmas that year which still wasn't affordable but he worked a lot of overtime to get it, something I will never forget. I played the crap out of that thing as the keyboard player in a bunch of really bad Hair Metal bands. Eventually got a used DX7 and then a D550 rack when they came out. Then an SQ80. That trio of DX7, D550 and SQ80 was killer. I then got a JV1080 and then an XV5080. Then I got a wife and a kid and had to get a real job lol
I chose engineering instead of music, though for jazz guitar not keys; I am still not sure it was the right choice. My former music theory, concert and pit band, and jazz ensemble teacher told me that after I had graduated he managed to convince our district to buy a DX7, but nobody could figure out how to program it so they used only the presets. The first time I saw one on stage was (I think) Kei Akagi playing keys for Allan Holdsworth sometime in the 83-84 time period; That was during Holdsworth’s SynthAxxe phase and they both just blew me away. Wives and kids, LOL.

Jon,

Perhaps I should have asked this here:

Zenology Pro Collection comes with a year of Roland Cloud Ultimate. If I buy that now, will my year of Ultimate be Play 4 Life?

Seems like a good reason to double up and nothing in the terms seems to say otherwise, but I don’t know how the system works.

Thanks!

PAK wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 4:20 am As you probably know ( … ) they’ve updated the file browser for a few of their plugins. I’m not sure what criteria they used, to decide which ones got the update and which didn’t, but it seems like it was mostly things they intend to use in the current Fantom EX hardware.
This is still part of plan going forward! Focus has shifted back to creating instruments and other plug-ins as well so v2 updates may not be as consistent as they have been. But the plan is to continue to make these big updates.
Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 2:15 pm Does enology include all the sample content (and any presets) from the digital emulations like d-50 and Xv-5080?

Also is it possible to claim as a cloud reward?
Hello, Echoes in the Attic. ZENOLOGY Pro has lots of factory presets and sounds from both the D-50 and the XV-5080 sprinkled through out. And many sound packs will contain these sounds as well. ZENOLOGY Pro is not currently available as a reward with Play 4 Life. But I will pass this feedback along for you!

Zenology Pro isn’t a choice in the Play4Life deal. Also, a year from that deal doesn’t equal a forever license for what’s included with Ultimate.

He used the synthaxe on Atavachron and the album was released in 1986. I think that was his first album using it. I saw the tour for that album he did with Chad Wackerman on drums….awesome show! I still have the ticket stub for the show, it was just $8.50. :tu:

Hey Jmankvr! From what I'm seeing the ZENOLOGY Pro Collection offers a 30-Day free trial of Ultimate. Play 4 Life and the ZENOLOGY Pro Collection should not interfere with one another and both are great deals. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Ah, my brain is old. I swear I was listening to Atavachron earlier than that, but I guess not. I have the vinyl and the CD and I remember a guy telling me he couldn't understand how I could listen to it (sheesh). I also probably have the ticket stub somewhere; it was at the Trafalmador Cafe in Buffalo (now closed I think). I am probably mixing up the Holdsworth show with Jean-Luc Ponty's Individual Choice tour show or some other Jazz-Fusion shredder like Al DiMeola. I was a college kid.

So, how much did I spend on plugins this year? More than thousands..
And how much of that on Roland Cloud plugs? Zero, 0, nil, nichts, non, nada.

Not that there was anything to buy, except for the 100th RE201 emu and some weird all-in-one plug, galaxias. Nobody asked for it, and certainly not me. But Roland knows better. I get the message.

Not that I am sad, I am very happy with the stuff I bought. Arturia, Gforce, SSL, Audiority, Korg, Waldorf, Eventide, Kuassa and Nembrini, TAL, Relab, AlyJamesLab and others. Many thanks for the C/R, iLok and plain serials.

Good call, I got a bunch of software in 2024 also. I also just subscribed to UVI SonicPass. With that you get Falcon which is insanely powerful, a bunch of other synths and effects and a GIANT sample library

It's such a bargain and only a few bucks more than an Ultimate Sub, and amazingly just works unlike Roland Cloud Manager

JamminFool wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:28 pm but that is not what they asked.
These two deals are separate. They do not interact with each other at all. ZENOLOGY Pro collection doesn't offer a membership option and instead is a bundle of Lifetime Keys and Play 4 Life is its own deal which involves an annual membership. Both are great deals, but are separate, as in they do not interfere, interact and are separate from one another. :borg:

Hey Jon, are the other legendary synths receiving the same browser updates as the Jupiter-4/8 and Juno-106? It's been a while, I thought you guys would have done the other as well?

Post

Jon, just about a year ago in January 2024 you made the following statements as an official employee of Roland Cloud
Jon at Roland wrote: Tue Jan 23, 2024 11:47 pm Just know that we have tons of stuff planned for this year that we are looking forward to share with you. :)
So since Roland promised us "tons of stuff" "this year", and 2024 is just about over when can we expect to see these tons of new things? Or shall we assume that nothing is coming, or "tons of stuff" simply meant the Space Echo plugin and Earth piano and that's all

As you said the last thing Roland wants is to appear to the community as a company that promises something and doesn't ever follow through
Jon at Roland wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:44 pm I totally understand your feelings about this. From my personal experience, the last thing Roland wants is to appear to the community as a company that promises something and doesn't ever follow through.
Thanks in advance, if nothing is coming feel free to just ignore this post we will all know what that means. We as the community will just assume nothing is coming and Roland is a company that promises something and doesn't ever follow through, just as their representative says

In any case Happy Holidays and Happy New Year

Well I just logged into RCM and there was absolutely nothing new to get. Earth piano sounded like poop and I deleted that months ago. Oh well happy holidays everyone.
