When it comes to the plugins very little which I'll explain in a bit. When it comes to the hardware quite a bit

The JV1080 hardware is the oldest. It contained a bunch of sample content, a bunch of presets, and a bunch of FX

After a few years the XV5080 came out. It had more sample content, more presets, and more effects. However Roland included all of the samples, presets, and effects from the 1080

A few years after that Roland came out with the original Fantom which had everything the XV5080 had when it came to samples, presets, and effects and a bit more

The XV5080 and JV1080 plugins are actually based on the original Fantom engine (which is also in the Integra7)

They have the exact same sound engine. The JV1080 and the XV5080 plugins share all of the same sample content as the expanded sample content from the Fantom is in both. The only differences are the JV1080 plugin looks like the 1080 hardware and the XV5080 looks like the 5080, and the 5080 plugin has a few more effects

For all intents and purposes there is no reason to have both installed at the same time. Just install the 5080 as it has everything the 1080 has and more, and sounds exactly the same, and most certainly don't buy both or use lifetime keys on both

They obviously know this when they did not replicate that decision for Zenology. As Zenology does most of what the XV/JV/SRX can do, except better IMO, I’m not sure those plugins are going see many more updates at this point.
The biggest advantage to the XV5080 plugin in my experience over Zenology is the GUI. Zenology is like "Tron the plugin" while the XV5080 is much easier on my 50 something year old eyes

I like the font on the XV-5080 better, Zenology is a bit tough on the eyes, but I wish it had the displays for waveforms and envelopes like Zenology has.

You can read up some of that info here (along with what Ivybirds just mentioned)

As you probably know ( … ) they’ve updated the file browser for a few of their plugins. I’m not sure what criteria they used, to decide which ones got the update and which didn’t, but it seems like it was mostly things they intend to use in the current Fantom EX hardware.
Yep, I know certain ones got that update.
Hopefully the D-50 and XV-5080 have updates soon.

Does enology include all the sample content (and any presets) from the digital emulations like d-50 and Xv-5080?

Also is it possible to claim as a cloud reward?

Post

By the way it’s absurd that they have two products which are the same but with a different UI (jv-1080 and xv-5080). Who does that. These and the srx's should obviously be in a single product, like Korg does.

It includes the base XV-5080 content, but not the SRX expansions. The Zenology versions have an additional charge of $20 each. They’re also available on the base $30/yr sub.

If you only want the sample content then everything’s fine. But, if you wanted the actual presets, then there’s an issue. For reasons, best known only to Roland, they excluded some of the XV FX from Zenology - meaning the Zenology presets sound different. They’ve since added reverb to Zenology V2, meaning it’s often possible to recreate the missing FX. If you go through all of the presets, one by one adding it back, it should only take a couple of years ;)

All Zenology products have, thus far, been excluded as Cloud Rewards. Subscribe or purchase. The Model Expansions are expensive for what they are, btw, with the “best” option their "discounted" $600 bundle. Given that I would highly advise demoing the Model Expansions before deciding whether they’re worth adding to the base Zenology Pro..

In this case, someone promoting that you get "X" plugins with their subscription service. This, along with a refusal to issue anything but temporary activation, even on "lifetime keys", are big things against the service. The Cloud Download Manager is also a bloated monstrosity. The Mac version is 1.8GB!! For a download manager. That said, it's been working without issue here lately ;)

Unless they've changed things recently, no. Sub or paid perpetual licence for Zenology.

I am somewhat weird in many things, when it comes to Synths, I overwhelmingly prefer the sound and sonics of digital and sample based Synths over analog ones. I am also old AF

For many many years I made extensive use of the Roland JV and XV hardware. The JV1080 has a piano patch called "64 Voice Piano" which for me is the iconic 90s Rompler Piano patch. It's a marked improvement over things like the earlier M1 piano, but not quite realistic enough to a real piano compared with what was to come later. It however remains quite the achievement for Eric Persing to pull off for the JV1080. I keep the half rack sized JV1010 around just for that preset and have it permanently attached to my interface for the sole purpose of that patch

When the XV5080 came out the patch is there and sounds exactly the same only it got a new name "128 Voice Piano" to reflect the improved polyphony of the XV5080

When I first tried the JV1080 plugin that was the first sound I immediately went for, when I saw that it's there and called "128 Voice Piano" Roland gave the same away it's just simply absurd you are right

BTW as an aside 64/128 Piano layered with the classic Fantasia patch from the D50 and/or the Full Tines patch from the DX7II or any other FM electric piano sound if you don't have that is amazing

I wish; same with the plugin GUIs. It is time for me to choose two more Roland Cloud instruments and this year I am not sure what to pick.

(snip)
I don't have a preference, but I have the XV-5080 and the JD-800 in my already chosen plugins list from their "Choose Two" deal. I think I am going to do the D-50 and the JX3P this year but I haven't decided yet.

I also happen to love Korg's Triton and Triton Xtreme plugins :)

How old is old AF? I will be 60 in less than one year.

I am a grandfather and in my late 50s :) I remember when all the "Vintage" Synths were new

Same for the "vintage" synths (kids but no grandkids - none of them wants kids - don't blame them). I remember seeing a Minimoog, Arp Odyssey, and Polymoog all in a row at House of Guitars in Rochester, NY (not sure if they were new or used). There was a guy on my street who owned a Minimoog and a 4-Track reel-to-reel, and we went over to his house to record stuff (guitar for me). One of my brothers had a Yamaha CS-15 for a while; bought new with some help from my dad.

For me when I was in highschool our music program joined with a bunch of other high school programs at a local amusement park. This was 1985. They had some workshops you could go to in the little theater there. I went to the synthesizer one. Sadly or awesomely depending on your view point it was very lightly attended. There was only a handful of guys there as everyone else was riding the roller coasters

Anyway they had a guy talk about and demo "Computer Music" and he had a DX7, a Fairlight CMI and an Emulator. I can't remember if it was an E-II or the original. I was BLOWN away by all of them and I got to play them all and mess around with the Page R sequencer in the Fairlight. At the time at home I had a grand piano and an organ. I gassed for a big Analog Poly like an Oberheim or even a Prophet 5. From that day on however they seemed like ancient junk

I begged my dad for a DX7 which was not affordable for us but he got me a Casio CZ1000 for Christmas that year which still wasn't affordable but he worked a lot of overtime to get it, something I will never forget. I played the crap out of that thing as the keyboard player in a bunch of really bad Hair Metal bands. Eventually got a used DX7 and then a D550 rack when they came out. Then an SQ80. That trio of DX7, D550 and SQ80 was killer. I then got a JV1080 and then an XV5080. Then I got a wife and a kid and had to get a real job lol

This is still part of plan going forward! Focus has shifted back to creating instruments and other plug-ins as well so v2 updates may not be as consistent as they have been. But the plan is to continue to make these big updates.

Hello, Echoes in the Attic. ZENOLOGY Pro has lots of factory presets and sounds from both the D-50 and the XV-5080 sprinkled through out. And many sound packs will contain these sounds as well. ZENOLOGY Pro is not currently available as a reward with Play 4 Life. But I will pass this feedback along for you!
