T2 feature motivation - did anyone ask the users?

Another rant - wah, wah, wah.
Okay, I just went over the T2 feature list again, and it reminds me of when IBM was making parts to only fit their PC's and not doing any kind of consumer testing. Notice there aren't any more IBM brand PC's for sale anymore...
If I wanted broadcast level this, that, or the other, integrated super controller doo-hickeys, and that, I certainly wouldn't have looked at a really good, easy to use, $80 piece of software that can only do VST's. (I love Tracktion, BTW.) I would be Sonar'd up and have spent $5k+.
I'm not going to stop using Tracktion, by any means, UNLESS THEY LOSE SIGHT OF WHAT MADE ME WANT TO BUY IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, (natch!) but so far the step editor DOES look like the only thing worth it for the $80 crowd. Heck, I was still eyeing Sonar, etc, for higher end stuff, and if Tracktion 2 is going to be so clique-user-specific, maybe I will look that way sooner.
Not P.O.'d or anything, just kind of feeling like left out of the loop.
No one has to respond - just more like "umm....hey, remember me? I'm the audience you were looking at when you made this..what's in it for me now?"
Anyway, figure this is a public forum. Not trying to make a point. I guess more just philosphical. No need to respond. If you're pissed off at anything here, do something more constructive with the venting than post - write some music. Maybe you'll hit it big like the bands that do that anyway.

Mackie have made a business out of lowering the bar for access to professional features, without following Beringer style corner cutting. Tracktion fits well that model, and adding those $5K+ features IMHO is very much in-line with what made Mackie a success.

Sync and MIDI control have been asked for fairly often, as had (if I recall) step sequencing. There *is* a list somewhere of everything reasonable that's been requested (and maybe an unreasonable thing or two lol). I know I've pitched in my comments on several "We want" threads and have seen responses from Jules in some of the older ones as well.
Tracktioneers are a vocal bunch, nobody needs to ask us our opinions as we'll bloody well shove them down anyone and everyones throat!
I don't think there's reason to fear yet.

My complaining comes from logic, and goes like this,
1.6 is already good, it needs a few little things to get it into the OMFG catigory.
Loop audio recording
more options and fine editing for quantise/piano roll
some form of bus/mix/pan editing that allows for better mixing
Midi learn
If possible (maybe this is what the 64 bit summing thing is) a crisper/sharper audio engine.
That was it, I don't think it's much to ask for!
So, why is everyone so pissed off at those of us who are pissed off that the few simple things that T needed seem to be nowhere to be found yet.
If I want a f*^((ing mackie hardware system, i'll f(&%ing buy a mackie hardware system, ya dig?
I want a basic update to a great piece of software, I cannot believe there can even be opposition to this.

Well just to address the topic, Users have been requesting things non-stop since way before Mackie to Jules himself. So I'm quite sure they know what the users want. I think these features are just the tip of the iceberg meant to give you something to read before the actual launch, which is when they wanna make the biggest splash. Atleast thats what makes sense to me.PaulG wrote:Topic: T2 feature motivation - did anyone ask the users?
But at this point I dont know why Mackie would drop more blood into the tank full of hungry sharks. People seem more angry than greatful. So I wouldnt be surprised if they decided to keep quiet until the actual release. Which would suck IMHO.

I don't think anyone is pissed off that some people don't have the features they want. I think maybe they are just pissed off with hearing about it.eyeknow666 wrote:So, why is everyone so pissed off at those of us who are pissed off that the few simple things that T needed seem to be nowhere to be found yet.
Especially when:
any/all/none of those featuers may be in T2. Why in the name groundhogging are people bitching abot missing features when they don't even know the feature list?Loop audio recording

Why would you buy one if your software doesn't support it? Now Tracktion has support for such things, I might be tempted to save up. They look f**king cool, if you ask me.If I want a f*^((ing mackie hardware system, i'll f(&%ing buy a mackie hardware system, ya dig?
How about, and I say this only as a friendly suggestion, we all stop whining about which features are or aren't in T2 until we all actually know which features are or aren't in T2.

Not another one of these threads ! I think everyone should wait before judging too harshly. Everything at the moment is just pure speculation.
The release will probably contain a modest array of new usable features. Some will be Mackie specific (obviously, since they now control the marketing of the sequencer) and some will be more general like the 64 bit summing. Some will appeal and some will not. How many pieces of software can you name that contain absolutely every feature you want in every release version?
Fruity Loops is a really successful and popular piece of software, but it also packs a lot of stuff inside and some of it is next to useless for some people. It doesn't mean that they don't use the program.
If you want to see a piece of software that contains every feature YOU want, I'm afraid you're going to have to make it yourself. And in that case, I look forward to an announcement thread on this here very forum

stop repeating this, Valley. - The argument is just too complex for some people.valley wrote: any/all/none of those featuers may be in T2. Why in the name groundhogging are people bitching abot missing features when they don't even know the feature list?

Personally, I think this piece of gear looks really cool:Why would you buy one if your software doesn't support it? Now Tracktion has support for such things, I might be tempted to save up. They look f**king cool, if you ask me.

I've heard nothing but good things about their hardware actually. Why are people so anti?

Ah, the voice of reason...valley wrote: How about, and I say this only as a friendly suggestion, we all stop whining about which features are or aren't in T2 until we all actually know which features are or aren't in T2.
We can't have that here!
I agree completely, valley. First, they wanted to know the entire feature set, up front, before it was even decided on by the developer. Now we're getting a peek at the feature set, and suddenly, T2 sucks! I don't get it.

I'm sorry but I do agree with Paul G. The same thing happened when Cool Edit Pro was bought out by Adobe. They piled on a bunch of almost insignificant features and left like one to three pretty decent stuff to entice us to pay out the cash. Either way I will buy T2, no matter what they do, but I kind of agree. It's like Mackie bought out, and now theyre like- hey ! look! its OURS now and we can make it support mackie mackie mackie! its like almost that they turned it into a commercial for buying their other freaking products! And yes it is "preliminary" to think of this stuff, but simply look at the features revealed so far. As of yet, the feature list looks more or less like it's going in that direction, and each new one seems to be more disheartening, with the notable and obvious exceptions. If those really are simple teases, then the jokes on us, but "what if we're right?" Is what we are trying to say.

Adobe added (in v.1.5):
1. ReWire support
2. VST plug-in support
3. Enhanced video integration (i.e. more compatible formats, not less)
4. Pitch correction tool
5. Frequency space editing
6. Automatic elimination of click/pops
7. Studio reverb real-time effect
8. New sample sessions and royalty-free loops
9. Vocal extraction
10. Flexible envelope scaling
11. Integrated CD burning
12. more
If you're worried that Mackie will follow Adobe's example, I say "Bring it on!"
