In the past there were no less musical garbage (and musical treasures) than we have right now. The modern garbage will be forgotten and only more or less good music will be retained.

was wild boys, simons voice sounded off to me, a bit too "present" if you get me?

Why, musically, is there a difference making all classical music (whatever that is) or jazz (whatever that means) not 'folk music'. Rhetorical question, which means putting it out there as food for thought.
Except that I feel like the public was exposed to a much larger share of the music of the day back then than it is now. In other words—there was way less of it, but people heard way more of it, and it was way better. This is objectively true.lobanov wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 4:28 pm The "old music" is music that has been selected. This is "good" (valuable) music that we retain and keep. Well many electronic genres have done themselves to death and ended up fading out.machinesworking wrote: Mon Dec 23, 2024 7:26 pm I mean back to the subject, if popular music gets really so paint by numbers and tonally bland that it's not even a matter of taste, then that just opens up the possibility for someone to write some catchy things that are that much more complex, and the greater public will respond positively to that complexity. I mean that's the best outcome of music by numbers.
One thing that is happening that's going to cause issues is there's a bean counter tendency to take options away from people, and electronic music devices are great examples. Dance music in all of of it's forms being the dominant macro genre of electronic music has resulted in hardware manufacturers stripping out massive parts of music fundamentals from their devices. Specifically hardware coming out with only 4/4 as a meter, and no ability to change tempo in a song. This probably doesn't seem that bad to most people because it's rare for dance music to have those elements anyway, but the fact that it becomes that much harder to use them in modern hardware like Maschine+, Push 3, MPC 3, Circuit, and on the software side XO, Maschine 3 etc. is frustrating for me._leras wrote: Wed Dec 25, 2024 10:38 amWell many electronic genres have done themselves to death and ended up fading out.machinesworking wrote: Mon Dec 23, 2024 7:26 pm I mean back to the subject, if popular music gets really so paint by numbers and tonally bland that it's not even a matter of taste, then that just opens up the possibility for someone to write some catchy things that are that much more complex, and the greater public will respond positively to that complexity. There have been plenty of new iterations that have produced loads of great music.
I'd say there is also more complexity in modern music production as well as generally better production values.
Just taking electronic music, there has never been a larger base of music to draw inspiration from, never been a time with so much openly available production education, never been better tools. How can the outcome possibly be worse music?
The sentiments in this thread are like people who still think Sasha and digweed are the best ever. Of course they were great, but there's been 20+ years of great electronic music since then.
